What EXACTLY are Minnesota citizens doing for support?

Someone pleasecexplain this to me like I am five. I listened to parts of a Minnesota public radio program this afternoon, an interview program with people who are involved in action groups in Minnesota.

They talked about how strong their action groups are, how well connected everyone is, the strength of their organizational efforts , and they’ve been working on this since George Floyd protests and etc. So OK, I understand that. Person after person after person talked about the “support” provided to their community.

But I do not understand: what exactly is that “support?” Can someone tell me five things that “support” consists of?

I’m sincere in my question but certainly I’m coming from a skeptical point of view. I simply do not understand, because what I see in media clips are there more volatile situations,, and I don’t know how normal that is in the Twin Cities. I see plenty of clips with neighborhood folks milling about on their street, hanging around suspected or known ICE vehicles whike shouting or harassing ICE officers, blocking ICE bodies and vehicles with their own citizen vehicles etc.

    Is this “ support?”

School employees/administrators are patrolling around schools at the beginning/end of the day to watch for ICE snatching up parents and students. People are delivering groceries to those who don't want to leave their homes. Others are helping with financial assistance for those afraid to leave the house to go to work. A lot of stuff is happening that has nothing to do with protesting, filming ICE, etc.

I knew about patrolling around schools, but I didn’t understand that delivering groceries and providing financial aid was happening, and those indeed are practical supportive actions.

I have a college friend there who is a doctor, and she is making housecalls now to provide medical care for people who are afraid to come in for their appointments.

A news feature I saw was an interview with an immigrant who had been afraid to go out of his house for five weeks to go to work. He lived with two brothers who were in a similar situation. He said a non-profit was covering their rent and the community was helping with food. An open ended question that could mean something else. Maybe something more on an emotional level?

The intent of my question was on a practical level. I’m not interested in the “emotional “support because that seems self-explanatory.

Here where we live parents are taking other people's children to school.
Parents are forming protective rings around the school at drop off.
Parents are dropping off groceries at people's houses.
People are dropping off food at food banks and from their volunteers are delivering food.
They are doing these things in Minnesota, obviously, and they are doing them here, too.
Another thing in Minnesota is that neighbors and bystanders are rescuing pets--Ice abducts people from their cars and leaves the dogs in the road. Pets are left home in empty houses with no one to feed them.
In Minnesota, they are trying to identify people as they are abducted so that they can go check on their houses, since they have found minor children home alone with no one to care for them.

Do they do the same things for citizens abducted from their homes for failure to pay child support or fraud or embezzlement or any number of offenses that legal citizens are routinely abducted from their vehicles and homes for?

what is the protective ring doing? Does that mean they guarantee a physical altercation if ICE officers attempt to enter a school?

I would’ve liked to have seen a “protective ring” around Jewish students on any number of campuses during the recent campus stupidity targeting Jews.

but then Jews have only had multi thousands of years to get their neighbors organized in their favor to take care of them. Instead they assimilate fully. And legally. Bummer. Edited to add: or, they leave.

But cynical thoughts aside, I’m kind of happy to see a Midwestern state acting up just to show the coastal people thaf fly over country has some action, coastal cities can’t claim it all. And it really is a GOOD thing for people to get to know their neighbors and to be taking care of each other. We know that in my old neighborhood because we had enough assaults on our neighborhood that we were pretty good at flexing our muscle and pushing away threats.

When ICE moves out of Minnesota, the good citizens of Minneapolis and St. Paul can go back to cop hating and cop baiting. That will keep them sharp and their organizational skills polished.
