Ok, I've roamed high and low and I don't know what's wrong. I know this would be better suited for a computer forum, but someone here always seems to have intelligent help without the attitude, so ....
I decided to start a blog at wordpress, in a somewhat backward fashion; I want to write a journal offline using blog-friendly software and then use the published (but private) wordpress site to back it up.
Let me say that I have no attachment to Wordpress or Windows Live Writer, these are the two elements that were suggested. I'd be happy to start over with different sites and software if someone is doing this successfully with something else. I'm running on Windows 8.1.
I downloaded Windows Live Writer, and it wants to link up with the wordpress site. Fine. we get to a screen that says, insert blogname
http://<blogname>.wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php
I trade out kiblog for <blogname>:
<http://kiblog.wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php>
I get the message:
Network Connection Error Moved Permanently: Moved permanently.
I have tried inserting @, inserting www, cancelling the xml business at the end, to no avail.
The help I have found says the older versions of wordpress required you do something to manually enable the remote component, but the newest version doesn't require it. I find no way to change that setting on wordpress. Wordpress itself has a handy useless tutorial that has me inserting the blogname into that exact pathline that Writer is asking for. Which doesn't work.
Any clue??? Is Writer 2012 not compatible with the latest version of Wordpress? Am I just missing a comma or a period?
