What is the penalty for cashing in stocks? What I have is Walgreen stock

How did you acquire these stocks? (I'm mostly seeing if it was through working for walgreens or something which would raise a bunch of other complications and making sure these are actual stocks not stock options or something).

There should not be any penalty for selling stocks, however there may be a fee to sell them through an online brokerage etc. and they might generate capital gains on which taxes are owed.

how were they acquired? Earned as income, purchased, gifted, inherited, from trust account?
how are they held? Stock account, plain certificates, 401K or other tax deferred account?
has any option period expired, if it ever existed?
There may be other questions depending on answers.
