For the last year or so I've gradually been working from home more frequently. I travel a lot for work, don't really need to be at the office on a daily basis, and when I get home late in the evening from somewhere it's nice to be able to sleep in a bit and then just roll out of bed and start doing my meeting reports, expense reports, and the like. And my boss is 3,000 miles away, so he doesn't care where I work, as long as I get stuff done. Plus my company strongly encourages people to do this.
Up to this point I've been working at home with a computer on my lap and a stack of papers sitting on a futon next to me. It's been fine but I wanted something a bit more formal and ergonomic. Plus, I also wanted to try my hand at actually making something physical. So much of my life is spent online that I thought it would be rewarding to have an offline project with a tangible result.
And this is it: After $110 spent at home depot on supplies and about 10 hours of labor over this long weekend, I now have an official "work from home desk".
