View Full Version : dumb question - IRA

I have had a small monthly contribution made to Vanguard IRA accounts for quite a few years. It is automatic so I don't think much about it during the year. However, I retired a little over a year ago. Am I still allowed to make contributions since I don't have "earned income" so to speak, i.e. paid employment? I don't intend to take anything from it until I have to. Yes, I know it's a dumb question but sometimes the obvious doesn't make sense to me. Perhaps someone here can explain in clear terms if I can or can't continue to contribute after retirement.

If you have a working spouse who earns more than what you would be putting in the IRA, yes.
