Well, that Balenciaga campaign was sure cancelled! And rightly so!

I usually don’t pay attention to the outrage of the moment, but for some reason I got sucked into this one. And after looking into it, the concern around the ridiculous Balenciaga teddy-bears-in-bondage ad campaign is understandable. Why involve actual children in subtle as well as not-so-subtle references to child abuse porn materials …beyond me.

This fashion house tried mighity to be avant guarde art. But it is a dumb commercial enterprise selling to even dumber customers. I will cut their artistic inspiration sources some slack because art. But their attempts at “artistry” were misplaced. The Balanciaga company went from offering a weak apology (“We are sorry if we offended anyone…”) to throwing the photographer under the bus for providing such outrageous props. (!!!j
But even rubes in flyover country like me know that photog would not be choosing props and planned images let alone the direction of the ad campaign. Not fooled, the public pushed back and Balanciaga apologized AGAIN.

Then, still reacting to outrage, Balanciaga said it would sue the ad production company! Because (it implied) every executive and member of creative team HAD NO IDEA of the substance of the ad campaign!

Utter bullshit.

The fashion house that once produced stylish yet baggy jackets…

…Now produces baggy and unstylish garments heavily marked with logos like this black number. How the mighty have fallen.

Never even heard of this company and no idea of the ad campaign you speak of, but that first photograph, looks like a hospital gown, that was cut too short (kids gown on an adult).

Don't these fashion houses do something outrageous every few years just for the attention? Balenciaga is an old, well established enterprise that probably thought its brand needed a shot in the arm Speaking of which, remember the uproar surrounding "heroin chic?"

I think they forget themselves and try to be art. They certainly COULD BE art as expressed in clothing. If only that is what they were doing.
