I’ve been watching Persian cat rescue sites for the right cat and found one last week. She is seven years old. I wanted a middle-age to senior cat because I don’t want to die before my cats.
She is tiny! And she is a little doll. she is 7 years old, rescued through a breeder retirement program.
We drove to Indiana to get her yesterday.

She's adorable, IL! What made you want a Persian? I'm rather pining for a Scottish Fold, but as our cats have always found us, rather than us finding them, the likelihood is pretty dim. Ok, one exception - but that cat, rescued from the shelter, was because one of our fur-boys lost his big brother/best buddy and really wanted a kitten (he told us so, lol). And he ADORED that little kitty, who ran him ragged and got him into all sorts of trouble.... Enjoy your new fluffy!

I love flat faced cats and the Persian personality. I don’t love the long hair that comes with a Persian so I had had my sights initially on an Exotic which is a breed that is Persian in body type but with short hair. But Exotics are a little bit harder to find in rescue and also when it came right down to it, their faces just seemed too extreme to me even though they are probably the same thing.
My last cat had long hair and in the last years of her life I had her shaved three times a year because she could not keep up with her long coat and it got knots. So I will do that with this cat as well. Princess Kitten Head currently has shaved coat which I actually like.
Anyway, Not only did I have an age requirement, I had color and pattern preferences, and then I wanted a cuddle cat. She fits the bill, she likes being cuddled. She has been a show cat so she’s been hauled around and she accepts new situations easily as well as baths and nail trims.
She was born in Germany and shipped over to the States at a young age.
About Scottish folds: My friend had her name in for a Scottish Fold at a local cat rescue group and they called her when they got one in. He is a darling cat! Very cute, confident, happy.
But can she breathe easily? That would be my concern for this type of kitty.
She's darn cute though!

there is no “breathing easily “with brachycephalic cats and dogs. You have to keep them cool and don’t let them get overheated. They need temperature controlled environment.
My moral dilemma is that I love the flat faced pets, I guess they are my baby substitutes. But I do my best not to do anything to encourage production of them. That’s why I have to limit myself to rescue animals which is fine because there’s plenty of wonderful pets out there in rescue.
I suppose it could be argued that even by having rescues devoted to them props up breeding. There are some vets who refuse to treat them. Many airlines refuse to fly them anymore. Those decisions are based on safety of the animal but also just not wanting to deal with their delicate problems.
That was what I feared.
I'm drawn to round-faced kitties myself--particularly British Shorthairs and Selkirk Rexes, which I only love at a distance.

You are safe with British Shorthair Cats, they just have big fat round heads but I believe they have enough nose to be fine.

Our local spay neuter clinic will not touch bull dogs, frenchies, pugs, or whippets. No mention of Persians.
I love our "mutt" cats since each cat is such an individual.

that is wise of that clinic to stay away from the brachycephalic dogs.
The woman who is running this rescue strongly suggests I hook up with a vet she recommends an hour away from me who deals well with brachycephalic cats. My own vet here in Herman, brand new, is… Well probably not so great for specialized animals. I wouldn’t let them put my dog under anesthesia for sure, and probably need to think carefully about anesthesia for this new cat. At least we have a record of the anesthesia used on her, the dose and etc.

I believe my Cat Lady days are over, but British Shorthairs are rarer than meat pasties around here, and Selkirk Rexes are unicorns anyway.

After being sequestered in my bedroom for a day, she is ready to party. She came downstairs this morning, saw the giant oaf bulldog who ran at her, and she skittered back upstairs.
our stripey cat is hissing at her.
So far, a typical meet ‘n greet.

At her size, if I saw him I would run for the hills too. Our two girls can coexist but if Cutie gives Gigi the "look", Gigi runs into the tunnel and hides.

JealousyHa. Wrong again. But yeah----IL probably passed at least 5,678 homeless cats without pushed-in faces that NEED a "furever" home en route to IND., that would have required much less time playing tag with 18-wheelers. Yup. I am just sitting here, wondering if the source was a "reputable" breeder? Or one with 700 cats who passed away suddenly, and needed an intervention by a group. Just curious. Hope that helps you some. Thankk mee.

See---The pushed-in face catts I'm familiar with tend to be a little grumpy, 'specially around other catts. Plus, they have a physique that gives them a thick torso and a bit more core strength. So yeah---they can be harder to pill and restrain if they have a hissy fit. Plus, that flat face also places them at a disadvantage when it comes to getting the food out of the bottom of a can. Yup. Thing is, purebreds are much in demand$. So, I figure--let someone el$e "rescue" it. Hope thatt helpps you some. Thankk Mee.

Okay---IL, hopefully, you will now join a Catt Clubb, so then you can load up your kitties in the Merc-O-ree, and get out and DRIVE 100's and even 1000's of miles every weekend to National and Regional and even International Catt Clubb Conferences and Shows! Maybe even win ribbons for: 'Best Pushed-In Face" or: "Crabbiest Attitude". For your cat, I mean. See? Doesn't that sound like bunches of fun? Each month, you'll receive a Catt Clubb news magazzine in the mail, advising you of the Meet Schedule and of Classy Rest-O-raunts that serve the Yummiest food. Broasted Rotisserie Chikkin', Big THICK IWAH factory-raised pork chops, and KC-style and St Lo-style yummy, awesome, and Amayzeen BBQ Meat! And of course--Steak Houses, serving choice cuts of IWAH BEEF! Yup. Hope that helps you some. Thankk Mee.
What an adorable cutie! I hope that you both bring each other much happiness and love.

Well Bobby, not that you deserve any explanation, and you will certainly see it as self justifying, but the story of my two recent cat acquisitions has to do with wanting them for more than 20 years but not choosing this kind of cat because I ended up with other people’s cats.
In the year 2001 my beloved silver tabby, the best cat I’ve ever had, died. Our other cats that we had at the time, a mix of strays, had also died just before that. So I found myself without a cat and no litter boxes, I enjoyed that no litter box status for a couple of months but then I decided OK, I’m going to go out and get myself an Exotic. I always wanted one. They have a pushed in face you know.
As I was ready to make contact with cat breeders because I wanted a retired show cat and breed
“rescue “didn’t really exist way back then, A tragic thing happened: my friend and neighbor was shot and killed by her husband. They had 12 cats.
So all of their friends stepped in to take armfuls of cats and distribute cats to various people. I ended up with 4 from her household. None of those 12 ended up in a shelter, all went to neighbors and friends. And then a few short years later My mom went to a nursing home and her cats obviously needed a home so I took those two. So for the next 20 some years I was dealing with those cats. The last of those cats died in May 2020. I didn’t get more cats right away because I knew we were moving and I enjoyed the luxury of having no litter boxes.
But now we’re permanently here in Hermann and so that’s why I adopted two cats.
I toy with the idea of hosting a feral cat colony because my little town has a very active feral cat rescue group. But my current problem is that neighbors down the hill already complained about the feral cat colony across the street so I don’t want to engender neighbor acrimony. Also, I’m not sure I could dedicate myself to taking care of a feral colony

Okay---The was interesting, and shows creativity on your part. But yeah----the takeaway for me is that certain type snooty "neigbors" will find something--an imagined nuisance---to complain about, because it meets a need to complain. Feral cats---yeah!! Old, junk cars--Yeah!! Indoor furniture Outdoors---Yeah!! They claim to be protecting property values---that are already too HIGH!! See? They usually pick someone or something that they figure has little or no power to fight back--feral cats, for instance.. Thus making a 'hood almost unlivable. See? Okay---I think it is good that you've got the Dream Cats you've wanted for many, many years! Yup. But, as penance for driving ALLL the way to indiana, could you take in a homeless brown tabby or a black or dark gray catt, too? They seem to be THE most prevalent types in shelters and found-stray sites. Hope thatt helps you some. Thankk Mee.5013
Feral cat colonies require a tremendous amount of work. I follow Shelly Roche (Tiny Kittens) and her work in Langley, BC. She and her crew manage a 200+ colony and several smaller ones, as well as taking in and rehoming other random cats in need. As far as I'm concerned, she's a very special person.
I also contribute to the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, which spays, neuters and vaccinates cats throughout the Portland/Vancouver area. Finally, little by little, feral cats are starting to get much needed attention.

Today Madison is hanging out in the living room with everyone else, sleeping on a chair. She was doing that yesterday too too. It took her only one day to thoroughly check out the house from top to bottom.
She and the dog had a couple of standoffs that had me concerned, but now they’re much better. Our other cat is annoyed that she is here and he stopped hanging out with us for two days but he’s a little bit better today. She is so tiny, only around 5 pounds. She stands up for herself though.
I love her because she’s so cuddly! She lets me molest her any time. This is unlike our other cat who does not wish to be contained.

I like that a lot, Bobby. TYVM, RR. But yeah---I might add that the catt is a Fluffy Brown-tabby-over-white. Prolly has mixed ancestry, with some persian in there. She is kind of bratty, so I can kinda see why some person who doesn't cater to catts might have abandoned her. No one reported her missing or claimed her. Nope. This was a year and a half ago. She was not full-grown. After a few months & no one claimed her, I got her spaded(spayed). But yeah---she does purr & stuff, but has VERY sharp claws to ward off the competition. Can swat five times faster than your average catt, too. Yup.

Bobby, I think what you did is wonderful!!! When an animal is a brat I call it personality:)). TYVM, TT. I keep asking myself, "Why are there so many stray catts?", and just what exactly is meant by "stray"? I think it is a catch-all term, for any cat that is out in public, and not on private property. Springfield is a strange place, where possession equals ownership, and vice-versa, I guess. Also, while some people are very fond of their pets, many others do not relate to companion animals that way, and just take them for granted. See?

Okay---using correct cat psychology, the box should be placed to make it appear that you'd prefer they not sit in it. Try up high, on a shelf. Maybe place an article of clothing in it, as a ruse, to make them instinctively want to get catt hair on it. But no---putting the catt in the boxx??? Ha. Okay---Here is a photo of an old, junkk carr that was left for years in the aftermath of the Eruption of Mt St Helens. It's a 1972 Ponnyac Grand Prix. The photo is a few years old, so by now I reckon somebody complained about this unsightly eyesore, and how it was lowering property values up there on the mountain. Yup. But, I bet somebody else removed the hood to see if the engine might be good enough to take home with them. 5135

Aren’t they hilarious? All these pets of ours make me laugh.
Our tiny new cat has one toy she especially loves. She carries it around, chirping to it, batting it across the floor. It goes upstairs and downstairs with her. Our stupid oaf bulldog gets jealous easily, and he will swoop in to take her little toy. Big jerk. Of course I take it away from him immediately because his big jaws will decimate it.
