Saw this picture of a large tent set up like a hotel room and looked into it further...

Wow. I either think that's really brilliant or really stupid. But I can't decide which. Maybe it's neither! Interesting, though :)

Very cool - but for $275.00/night, I want room service, an historic city around me, and no possibility of bugs. (I picked a run-of-the-mill Weds/Thurs stay to sample the rates.)

I loved it for it's uniqueness! I'm definitely no bug-lover either, but what an experience it would be, camping out under the stars in what would seem to be a luxury hotel room, with all the sights and sounds of the wilderness. That's pretty groovy!

I lived in a smaller version of that for 3 months in '84 in the wilds of WV - loved my little platform tent. Mine wasn't decorated as nice. I had a simple cot, a trunk, and a little woven seat bench that I'd made.

There is also a seaside tent community here in Ocean Grove, NJ. We were there once for a concert and loved all the tents set up like houses. Here are some great pictures:

Looks so inviting, doesn't it! I can smell the salty-air as we speak, and I can hear the birds on the beach.

How interesting! I had never heard of this.

In Montreal, Canada, they build an Ice Hotel each year (winter season), and people pay top dollar to stay at it.

Google, Montreal Ice Hotel, for pictures and info. It really is fascinating.

Heh, for $275 I could buy a pretty nice tent and sleeping bag! Though not that big nor with a real bed. I suppose there's a market for this or they wouldn't do it, but for me the appeal of a tent is that I'm NOT being waited on hand and foot and it's not luxurious. It's WILD. Part of the beauty of camping is being reasonably comfortable but feeling like my bed and shower is a total luxury when I get back. I actually think my bed and maybe shower would seem ho-hum at the end of that kind of tent camping, which IMO misses the point when I camp. But this is Jackson so maybe that's the lower end of the spectrum when it comes to accommodations?
