Today it struck me that change really is in the air. Major change. As I was running errands around town today, I noticed at a main intersection here in Phoenix a billboard advertising the new health exchanges that are set to open on October 1st. Wow! I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop somehow on this but so far it hasn't happened.

And then I was just on yahoo.com, where I read that same sex marriages are taking place in New Mexico now in Santa Fe and in Dona County (Las Cruces) NM. Very interesting there as I have had my radar on Las Cruces for some time and it just became more interesting.....

Definitely change is in the air. Rob

I agree, Rob. Seems like our country and our culture are finally moving in the right direction on these issues. It's refreshing!

Thanks for pointing this out!
I tend to get wrapped up in the nasty stuff (fracking, climate change.) But yes, change is happening!

Rob, having visited Las Cruces and hearing about it from people who live there, I think it's a very interesting place. Also, close to Mexico.

Gosh I guess! In my own little neighborhood the tide has apparently turned and I could NOT be happier!

Last night a message went 'round our neighborhood vial emails and listservs about a development plan less than 1 block from my house. It proposes to renovate a decrepit turn-of-the-century factory building and make low income apartments..

So here's the surprise: There was immediate strong negative reaction to this plan. Loud, clear, and reasoned opposition. So many voices and emails showed sincere concern about neighborhood safety that I think the tide has turned. People "get" that a stake in this neighborhood means that you participate in all of the activities that keep it a cohesive and cooperative whole. These housing developments on the fringe of our neighborhood do NOT provide people who participate.

I am gobsmacked because this kind of stupid chit has been going on here forever and those who bring up reasoned concern about crime rates are called haters. And other names that you can probably imagine.

This is, like most of these idiotic plans, backed by some gubmnt program and likely it's a Federal program. Supposedly if my neighborhood votes "no" the project will not go.

At this point in my life, I am even in favor of tearing down the hulk factory building rather than fight with the Feds about their imagined "improvements" to my neighborhood. As a building hugger, this is a sea change for me. The turning tide, doncha know.
