to a huge swath of the country, it looks like. We took a look at all the emergency power-out supplies and stocked the pantry, so we're as ready as we can be. Stay safe everyone.....

Yes, heading our way too. Ice then snow if the predictions hold. Not looking forward to it.

No ice coming here. Not today, anyway. Just wind-chill temperatures of -25 F.

Even the ice doesn't want to come here anymore....

Stay safe, y'all.

The sleet has started in Indiana. Many churches have closed for the day due to dangerous driving conditions that will deteriorate throughout the day. It is like walking on grainy sugar.

We're supposed to get it tomorrow. I live on the edge where it's always "will it or won't it." (It usually doesn't.) But we've gotten it a lot this winter and missed either 7 or 9 days of school (lost count.) No significant public funds allocated for road cleaning so if we get it we'll be out of school for a few days as it's supposed to be very cold afterward.

Supposed to hit us tomorrow also. Work already expected to close and hopefully the schools will close for the kids. We already have damage from past storms waiting to be repaired... sigh.

Safety tip - if you are going to put heavy weights in the back of your pickup truck to give it better traction on ice, please please please tie them down securely.

There was an accident nearby the other day where a fellow ran off the road and crashed. It would have been a survivable accident IMHO, except for the multiple 45 pound barbells that slammed forward and through the cab. It was like a bad zombie movie inside the vehicle, don't be That Guy.

This same advice clearly applies to any loose hard objects inside any vehicle, just don't do it.

My family acts like I'm over-reacting when I tell them to restrain heavy things in their cars. My DS kept coming to the house with barbells loose in his car.
When I had a Volvo wagon, I had a heavy wire gate installed behind the kids' seats, so all the stuff in the back wouldn't end up on them in an accident. I think it was meant to keep your animals in the back, but it worked well to protect humans too.
People just don't think about those things.....

That is the main reason we carried huge amounts of life insurance policies and a very good business policy when we were traveling to 32-40 art shows a year. A truck loaded down with metal display, 4 - 60 lb weights, tent/poles, not to mention art glass (probably 3000 pounds of stuff if not more) - it would be a complete mess for the road crews to clean us off the highway if there had ever been an accident. It was all packed tight in the truck shell but we've seen several fellow artists die in horrible wrecks where everything in the truck or van ended up passing through them to keep traveling down the road.

We did our rescue stabilization practice yesterday on this one, recreated from an accident we had a couple weeks ago, with the real vehicles restored to their as-found positions. The top vehicle was teetering in the wind, it was so finely balanced.

Be careful out there...

Oh geeze Bae! I always am amazed at how people's vehicles end up in the weird positions they do.

Out here in LA LA Land (SoCal) the only ice we have to worry about is what falls out of our icy cold soda cups as it's suppose to be in the mid 80's this weekend. Blech!
