I read that same Forbes article.

There have been concerns for years about all of the inoculations given small children and babies, and the schedule of those inoculations if not the innoculations themselves.

Of COURSE most inoculations are a net good thing but some thoughtful questioning of it seems ok to me.

I can’t help but compare to what I have experienced in veterinary medicine with my pets. There are recommended treatments that are beneficial to public health, but less beneficial to the individual pets. I don’t like that.

Our recent experience with the new strain of Covid was not pleasant--we wished we had gotten the booster. We were waiting to get it before a trip in Oct.--but ran out of luck.

Nothing like a cold for us--fevers up to 104 degrees, violent chills, weak, bad cough, clogged ears, lost our sense of taste for 10 days--not like any cold we've ever had.

12 days after onset, we're still tired and haven't gotten back our vitality. We're usually healthy and are surprised about how vicious this was.

I’m getting flu today and Covid next week. In my seventies. So far I have been really healthy and had 3 mild cases since Covid began. DH cannot get either shot and also cannot fly.
a favorite activity to seniors in Florida is cruising because there are major cruise ports so close. Many many people come back sick with Covid. I only know one person who recently was so sick she needed to be hospitalized. So it is out there.

As I am outside enjoying a beautiful sunrise, We will be avoiding crowds. Several people came over to play cards last night and we played outside. My crop of flower seeds to replace the ones that were worn out, access too pool, walking trails and so on I have no sadness staying away from crowds.

i will discuss the rsv shot with my Md next month. I trust her.

That pretty much convinced me to get the booster. I might wait a couple of more weeks.

i got a flu shot last week. DH needs one yet. We plan to get boosters within the next couple weeks, and will schedule for our first of the shingles shots then. I've never had a reaction to an immunization other than a slightly sore arm, knock wood. Other than that, I think we're caught up on everything. Not sure about measles, had them several times as a kid including German- so may be ok there. I think they can test for immunity, so I'll ask about it. I do keep up with tetanus, there's a lot of rusty metal that comes up out of the ground around old farms, and I tend to be barefoot or in flip-flops most of the time. I think as I age I need to change that. So sorry you were sick, HH!!

Thanks! Getting back to "normal." Taking a while..with our sense of taste returned we're eating our way back to what we weighed before Covid. (darn it)! Went to the gym the other day and realized I'd lost quite a bit of energy so am taking it easy but want to re-gain muscles...

I had a very light case of COVID last year--no worse than a mild cold, and I'm thinking that may have boosted my immunity, so I probably won't bother. I'm more interested in finally getting my shingles shot, especially now since I've read some evidence that it may reduce risk of dementia.

oh wow! Cool. on another thread, I talked about how I wanted that shingles shot even back in the day when I wasn’t going to the doctor or getting any kind of inoculations.

why wouldn’t you just go ahead and get RSV? In fall of 2024 I got these:

Covid
Flu
RSV
Prevnar20 (pneumonia)
Tetanus

I already had double Shingrix dose (that one requires 2 jabs, right? I can’t really remember since it was a few years ago.)

So I feel pretty well inoculated but will perhaps get Covid and flu boosters.

I have NEVER had Covid, that I know of anyway. I don’t get flu. But there’s always a first time. Well, maybe I had
flu last July because I had high temperature but only a tiny bit of nausea; the suspect at the time was food poisoning.

My brother and his wife go on a lot of cruises, 2+ a year, and they are sticklers for hand washing, masking, not eating at any buffets, etc. They have not gotten sick on a cruise.
Me, I hate the idea of cruises so do not miss out in that idea due to fear of illness.
