What are you watching 2023?

Last night I watched the Carol Burnett 90 Yrs of Laughter and Love special on Peacock. I LOVED The Carol Burnett Show back in the 60s. I was so thrown back to my teen-aged life while watching it that I actually FB messaged my old best-friend-and-unrequited-love-interest from high school because he and I would replay the scenes at our lockers the next day after every show, and laugh endlessly over some of the skits. He VMed me right away to say that he thinks of me whenever he watches Carol Burnett reruns. (No threat to DH--my dear friend has been married to a man for years now.)

oh, that’s so cute! I think of Carol Burnett as being my mothers comic though. Carol did a recent stint on “better call Saul” last season that I hear was pretty good but I couldn’t bring myself to watch that entire season. I’m tired of Vince Gilligan stuff, groundbreaking tho he was.


as soon as you said your friend used to reenact Burnett skits at your locker, I knew he was gay before you even said it!

A friend mentioned that Hill Street Blues was free for Amazon Prime members for all seasons on Prime video. Watched the first two episodes over the weekend. So damned politically incorrect that I laughed my ass off. One cop even said “check his immigration status!” about the owner of a liquor store that was held up.

This was 1981. No cell phones, typewriters instead of computers. Kinda culture shock watching it. Cops having to search out pay phones.

Watched the whole season of "Jury Duty" this weekend. Hilarious! With Ronald they really really found the perfect guy for the roll.

That’s good to hear. I love Keri Russell, I think she’s so elegant. I watched this because I heard an interview with her on NPR’s Fresh AiRe. And then Rufus Sewell, I am a fan of his too.

haha, I won’t ask you to elaborate on that, but in this interview she comes off as someone with some practical common sense. For Hollywood anyway.

Watching the last season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Prime as episodes are released.

Here is what I am an NOT watching: Succession.


The last episode drops on May 28. On May 29 I will sign up for HBO and binge the entire season. By then all my iris obligations will be over and I can settle in for a three day Succession fest.

I've been watching YouTube videos that concern various subjects. Some are entertaining, some are informative. But, some are boring. But, it's all good.

Okay---here's a good one, AFAIAMC(as far as I am concerned) But yeah---I sat-n-watched the video: "How To Polish Cordovan Shoes". It's not a very lengthy video, so yeah---you can take a break and see the whole thing. It's very informative.

White House Plumbers. About the fellows that broke into the DNC and destroyed Nixon’s presidency. What a bunch of idiots.

Okay----I been sit-n-watching youtube videos of Todd Grande, PhD. I figure you kids might be interested, since mosta you are amateur psychologists and stuff. Plus---he talks a lot about crime and pop culture, which interests mee. Well, he doesn't say anything too profound, which is fine with mee. He does make some wry comments at times, mostly in thew form of wordplay. But yeah---he's hanging on on youtube. Mosta the people I like get booted, after awhile, for not being sufficiently "woke". So far, he's only been demonetized. Get it? Demon-itized? Hope that helps you some.

Well, see---that's a strategy that youtube presentwers have to use, in order to not be deplatformed to censor them. See? But yeah---in other news, FoMoCo rescinded the decision to eliminate the AM band in radio receivers in their new cars. If they and other mfrs, did that, many, many non-liberal talk shows would also be de-platformed(censored). That said, I don't listen to anya them, anyhow. I already know more than they do. See? Hope that helps you some. I still enjoy listening to Todd Grande, PhD, just to compare notes. I don't always agree with his conclusions or laugh at his jokes. But, he's hella lot more better than JP or Dr Phil. , for sure. Thank Mee for my brilliance.

We just watched the final episode of Ted Lasso last night.

It was over the top wonderful

Will truly miss this warm, wonderful and funny series.

For us, it was very engaging and just darn terrific.

I am hearing that season 3 of Ted Lasso was lame, so I am glad to hear a good review.

I signed up for HBO Max on Monday and binged on Succession over 48 hours. It was another exciting season and very well acted. Brilliant writing.

since I am on the HBO Max service for a little bit, I’m watching The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, a documentary in several parts about the child who was adopted from the Ukraine, who the parents say, was actually an adult and a sociopath. It is shedding MUCH light on that case.

I rented a documentary about the art theft at the University of Arizona, 35 years ago, when the painting was found in a thrift shop in Silver City, New Mexico. My friend had just visited his relative in Silver City when it was found. and he told me about it. I love art heist capers anyway, so this film is up my alley. It is called The Thief Collector about it, William de Kooning painting valued at $160 million today. A married couple had the painting, and it was discovered when they died. They had been world travelers, but existed on one teacher’s salary. There’s speculation that they were stealing art and artifacts, and selling them overseas.

The adoptive parents are ruthlessly horrible people.
The little girl with dwarfism now 20 years old, is damaged but probably not a sociopath.

The court aged her up somthat she is now, legally, 33 or 35 but that is not right. There is consistent evidence, medical and her biological mother (verified with DNA test) that show her born in 2003, but she could be a couple years older than that, but only a few.

After “aging her up” legally her parents rented an apartment for her, kicked her out. In real life she would have been 8-10 years old.

Her father was put on trial for abandonment, but for a legal technicality, the jury was not allowed to hear testimony about her age. So, he was charged with abandonment of a disabled person. Thevjury acquitted him, largely because they were boxed in.

Interesting! I definitely came away with the opposite impression from the article, although it did sound like the couple didn't have a healthy relationship given the mention of a subsequent bitter divorce.

this documentary spends MUCH camera time on the father and he is such a drama queen. He would win an acting award, but only from the Hallmark channel because his acting is so bad. He makes the entire Nathalie episode all about him. And of course, because of the divorce, he throws his wife under the bus many times, and she does seem to be peculiarly controlling.

She made that little girl stand with her nose against the wall for 10 hours as a form of punishment, there is quite a bit of evidence that she set the little girl up to look and sound like a Sociopath. She made their eldest son urinate in Natalie’s bed.

The worst thing she did in her ex-husband’s eyes is to emasculate him by… withholding sex. Yes, that is what our take away is supposed to be that she’s an evil evil woman because of this.

There are so many things so awful about Natalie and her early life and her life with these people and then her life after they kicked her out. It is a total shit show.

Okay----I happened across a lengthy Viet Vet interview of a guy named Bob Martin. Well, I've sat-n-watched quite a few viet vet interviews, and even though summa the vets had been young idealistic kids looking for an adventure when they enlisted in the Army/Marines, they were pretty glad to get outta 'nam after their first tour(11 months). What practically all them observed about nam was that it stunk. So anyway---one notable exception is Bob Martin. He was all set to join the Marines, but joined the Army, instead, so's he could go fight godless com-nizzum. Not only that, but he did 4 tours---yes--four---and was a decorated veteran on his fisrt tour! Yup. And THEN, after his military career, he joined the Chiucago police department. Yup. Now, he lives in the Idaho Panhandle. But yeah---his interview, replete with anecdotes is VERY entertaining. Plus, he has a very distinctive laugh. Now, I see that he's got a published memoir out. Maybe I'll order a copy, some day. It's bound to have some gory stories, about killin' gooks n stuff. Yup. Hope that helps you some.Attachment 5514Attachment 5515Attachment 5516

We watched Lonesome Dove on DVD and it was fantastic! Everyone said it did the book justice, and I agree. Now I realize that the series came out in 1988, so this isn't exactly a news flash to most people, but better late than never for us.

Lonesome Dove is one of my husband's all time favorites.

“The Thick of It,” a British comedy by Jesse Armstrong that was the prototype for America’s “Veep.” Since I think “Veep” is the funniest comedy ever made, I had to watch “The Thick of It” about self-centered politicians who care about nothing other than staying in power and getting closer to the central seat of power. They are all despicable, much like the characters on succession, and I love them all.

I breeze through the documentary series about the Duggar family called something like “shiny happy people.” They are pretty awful. But I never watched that television show since I don’t like shows about happy sappy people, see above.

I followed Liddy's career a bit after Watergate, but lost track of E. Howard Hunt. Woody Harrelson, whom I'll watch in just about anything, made EHH complex AND idiotic, so that was good fun.

We are big Larry McMurtry fans. Someday going to do a trilogy watch of Last Picture Show, Texasville, and Duane's Depressed.

“To Leslie” a film about alcoholism and redemption. This film entirely escaped me, made just last year. The lead actress, Andrea Riseborough, is someone I’ve never heard of but gave an amazing performance, and was nominated for an Academy award.

“white lies” a 2013 New Zealand film about a Maori medicine woman who shows other townie Maoris how to own one’s identity. Poignant outcome.

I watched that movie after hearing about the somewhat controversial campaigning for her Academy award nomination by some A list actresses. I also found the movie to be OK, but a fairly mundane "hitting bottom and rising again" story about alcoholism. So many better ones of that ilk, like Flight. She did deliver a solid performance, however.

I agree with you that the storyline was bland with too pat of an ending, but her performance was a tour de force. She was in every frame of that film, and she owned it. She is British, another nugget in her favor. I enjoyed seeing Steven Root make brief appearances, and Allison Janney put in her usual strong performance. I was also glad to see the kid from TV’s “Bloodline.”

I’m always amazed at how well the British actors do in crossing the pond and portraying Americans. There’s so many good examples, but the one that sticks in my mind is the cast of tv’s “Succession” especially Matthew MacFayden who’s playing a Minnesota guy.

Yes, he is another who crossed the pond VERY successfully. He was brilliant as the menacing Soames Forsyte in the British production of “The Forsyte Saga.” Then he was brilliant as the American prisoner of war turned terrorist in “Homeland.” His British actress wife, Helen McGory, died recently of cancer.

Rufus Sewell and Idris Elba are two other Brits we see a lot here in U.S.productions. I was shocked to learn the elegant drug dealer in The Wire, Stringer Bell, was played by the English guy Elba.

I agree with Rufus Sewell--He played an American Nazi in The Man in the High Castle, which was a super Amazon series, although dark.

Okay----I sat-n-watched videos o' two a Zurra's most famous people---the late Leon Spinks(see photo) and the late great Earnie Shaver. But yeah---they both were up against the late Ali(FKA Cassius Clay)when they were relatively unknown and Ali was: "Da Greatiss!" Yup. But yeah---it's all on there, on video. Yup.Attachment 5542

Okay---This is funny. While I was sit-n-wathching pro boxers literally beat each others brains out, I ran across an anecdote about how notoriously hard-hitting pro Shavers was called in to consult with Stallone on another "Rocky" Moo-vvveeee. Stallone insisted on sparring with Shavers in the interest of realism, I guess, and asserted that Shavers should go right ahead and REALLY hit me, okay? So okaaaayyy, Shavers punched Stallone in his mid-section, which brought the sparring session to a halt, evidently. Stallone was said to have gone to the restroom to throw up. Well, that's what it said, anyway. Proves how Fake Hollyweird is, doesn't it? Hope that helps you some. Thankk mee.
