    celebrating another good harvest

Here's to another great pear harvest! (raises glass)
Besides the usual sauce, pies, dried stuff I do every year (plus gifting EVERYONE pears) I decided to try making shrub as my experiment recipe.
I love it! What it is is drinking vinegar that is a combination of fruit/herbs/vegs/etc... and vinegar and sugar/honey/syrup/etc... You mix the blend with either booze or club soda. I kinda like the club soda mix myself.
The first one was just pears, coconut vinegar and sugar/honey mix.
The second one was pears, thai holy basil, coconut vinegar and sugar/honey mix.
The third, and probably my favorite, was pears, thai holy basil, grated ginger, coconut vinegar/apple cider vinegar mix, and cane sugar.
    Yum yum yum!!
I do have a goodly mess 'o pears in storage for fresh eating. I just might have to make some more shrub!

Oh, and I might be tempted to try making a pumpkin shrub! With cinnamon.

I suppose this should have been in the food section, but it is related to gardening and harvest.

We've got a counter full of stuff, and more stored in the basement.
It was a good year for peppers and tomatoes. DH canned many quarts of tomatoes and froze pepper slices.
We got all kinds of squash. The onion harvest was decent but they won't last through to the period when they are so expensive in the stores.

    Lots of other stuff.

That mix with thai basil and pears sounds very interesting, I would probably like that.

Oh it is wonderful! Sweet and tart all at the same time. Next year I'm thinking strawberry, blackberry, plum,.....
When I was researching the stuff, many folks mentioned making vegetable shrubs. Maybe pepper/onion shrub to use some of your good harvest?
Sounds like you had a good year too. I raise my glass to you! Cheers.
