Trivial, but I booked a hotel through an online site (trip advisor) and instead of giving me the special low price, 2 queen beds, and free parking, it gave me a more expensive room - no parking - one king bed - and NO CHANCE FOR REFUND. I spent so much time looking for the best deal, too.

Grrr. I called the site and the credit card company, and am making a backup reservation at the hotel. We're going to Portland for my dd's 16th birthday (for just one night) and I wanted everything to be just right. I guess we'll see.

I would complain loudly about bait and switch and if it's a chain contact their headquarters and let them know what trip advisor did to you. Did it have a place for you to enter 3 travelers? Most of those sites ask how many people are traveling in the first screen. If you entered 2 I can understand why it gave you a king over 2 queens. The 2 bed rooms are more popular. But the taking away free parking would have me hot!
I use to book hotels for 36-42 weekends a year. Everytime they bumped me up in "perks" like the king instead of 2 queens, if our kids were traveling with us I had no problem trading the king room in for 2 queens when I got there. I think only 1 time they couldn't and it ended up that room had a nice (rare) sleeper sofa.

I look things up on trip advisor too. However, I have always booked directly with the hotel. Your experience reiterates to me NOT to use 2nd party sites. If there is a problem it is easier to deal directly with the hotel. Thanks for sharing.

Another aggravation to add to the earlier one I posted regarding jury duty. I work with a bunch of bozos and they are really driving me crazy. I have 16 more work days until vacation. I must detach, I must detach, I must detach....Thank you, I just had to vent a bit about work and I can't do it on Facebook or call my mom because she doesn't want to hear it anymore!

Well, Trip Advisor emailed me the next day that my reservation was not accepted! What a waste of time. I'll be checking my credit card bill very carefully this month.

An organization to which I belong, always complaining and whining about loss of members, no new members are joining, etc etc did this:awarded a posthumous award to someone who died 32 years ago. There was discussion in the business meeting about it.

Why? why why why? Apparently, it is not unusual for this organization to make awards to people long dead. I did not know this because I don't go to the meetings because they are a waste of my time because of actions like this.

Dear god, who CARES at this point that the long dead woman did a lot for this particular plant society? Why would anyone new be interested in an action about someone they never met, will never meet, and only NOW is being honored in this way. WHAT IS THE FREAKING POINT.

Yeah, But: It is likely that you are wrong-O on this matter. Did it ever occur to you that if you show up for every meeting, be nice to everyone, serve refreshments (and even Pizza), that someday---30 years after you are gone--YOU might be remembered for your contribution to the organization? For gads sake--try and be positive. Hope that helpps you some. Thankk Mee.

I won't be honored in this way, main reason being that this organization is dying. It will be dead before I'm dead.

I feel like a complete failure today. Just really down in the dumps.
Guess I'll go pull some weeds.

Sorry Gardenarian. I'm down in the dumps because we HAVE so many weeds! We really need to cut back somehow. I don't want to live the rest of my years working this hard!

Edited to add: And you're NOT a failure! (((hugs))))
