Let's not play both ends against the middle, ok? Moderation is subjective. All the mods will admit it and all the members know it. Our goal, as mods, is not to stamp anything out, it is simply to do what we can to foster an open environment where people feel comfortable laying their cards on the table to promote discussion of the given topic. The VAST majority of the time no moderation is even remotely called for. When it is, the result is usually a reminder to let emotions settle down a bit. Every mod has their own style. Like anyone else we all see the world through our own unique lens. Occasionally that will lead to a decision that rubs a few others the wrong way. Sorry about that, but it isn't any different than any other aspect of life where there is human interaction. It's also why the mods all communicate to each other when anything more than the aforementioned gentle reminder is called for. I'm usually torn between saying, "can't we all just get along?" (but you'd have to gag me with a fork) and "how about we all grow up and act like adults with more than one layer of skin?". Actually, that's what I'd like to say to our whole @*#% country right now, but that's a different thread.

you got some 'splainin' to do! ...

As someone that is "Fed Up" with government, Rick Perry seems to have "come to his senses" after a 27 year career of just being so damn "Fed Up" that he can't stand it. I wonder if he and Al Gore are on speaking terms?

Rick Perry served as Texas campaign chairman of Al Gore '88

Posted by Matt Ortega at 6/23/2011 03:49:00 PM

Here's a potential hiccup in a Perry bid for the GOP nomination: he was "ozone man" Al Gore's Texas Chairman in 1988.

    EnviroKnow's Josh Nelson notes:
Rick Perry, who entered the Texas legislature as a Democrat in 1984, served as Al Gore’s Texas Campaign Chairman in the 1988 presidential campaign. Soon after the campaign, Perry switched parties and was elected Texas Agriculture Commissioner as a Republican in 1990. “Going through that (Gore experience) was part of what started me through the process of changing parties in 1989,” Perry later said. “I came to my senses.” [...]

And while Gore was a moderate at the time on some issues (abortion, gun control, prayer in schools), he was already a committed environmentalist. 11 years before Perry chaired Gore’s presidential campaign in Texas, in 1976, Gore held the first Congressional hearings on climate change. Gore’s reputation on environment issues was so solidified by 1988 that the first President Bush took to the habit of calling him ozone man.

Rick Perry prides himself on his anti-environmental credentials as Texas Governor. But if and when he decides to run for President, whether it is in the next few weeks or in 2016, he’ll undoubtedly have to explain all of this to the Republican base.

    Rule #1 of Politics UPDATED

July 14, 2011 By: Juanita Jean Category: Uncategorized
    .
Rule #1 of Politics: When your opponent is shooting himself in the foot, do not stop him.
I cannot believe the idiocy of some people. Here we got Rick Perry holding a massive prayer meeting, thinking he’s gonna fill up Reliant Stadium (Hell, the Texans can’t even fill up Reliant Stadium) with people fasting in the Texas heat which means there’s gonna be people puking and passing out everywhere. Hell, somebody is gonna sneak a Mars Bar in and get mugged for it by six real hefty ladies with Bibles, stretch pants and appetites.

Then, for fun, add some real nutty foot washin’, snake handlin’, speakin’ in tongues evangelists who are bound to say something so racist, mean, and/or pure-d hateful that The Daily Show can just rebroadcast them without comment. If Pat Robertson comes, he’ll be the sanest man in the room, which would be a rare treat for him. Plus, at least one of them is gonna get caught sparkin’ with the choir director’s wife or the organist’s husband.
I am so exited about this event that I’ve already got a beach umbrella, a stack of girlfriends, and a battery powered Margarita machine to sit in the parking lot and watch the People of WalMart parade into Rick Perry’s Six Flags Over Jesus Hallelujahpolooza.
But, noooooo … some damfool has to play right into their hands.
The Freedom from Religion Foundation on Wednesday asked a Houston federal court to block Gov. Rick Perry from participating in the Response, a day of Christian prayer and fasting at Reliant Stadium.
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of five Houston-area atheists, argues that Perry’s participation in the Aug. 6 event amounts to government endorsement of religion, a violation of the First Amendment.
Prayer and fasting, the Wisconsin-based organization said in the lawsuit, “are not only an ineffectual use of time and government resources, but which can be harmful or counterproductive as a substitute for reasoned action.”
Ain’t they got enough to do in Wisconsin? I mean, ain’t it cheese season or something? All these folks are managing to do is to give the Perryites a platform to say, “Oh, look at the Philistines, not giving us our First Amendment rights to gather and praise Jesus.”
Hey, thanks a bunch, Wisconsin fools, for turning a bunch of clowns into martyrs. That’s just what we needed – give them power instead of ridicule.
The Second Rule of Politics? Don’t let some idiot break the first rule in your behalf.

UPDATE: Great read if you have the time. It’s work and Momma safe. We’re dealing with crazzzzy.

    Does Perry resemble the Anti-Christ?

Does he have 666 tattooed on his arm?

God uses good people; bad people use God. God got used a lot yesterday.

Perry, who wants to replace the president (regardless of his lack of a campaign proclamation), also prayed for Mr. Obama. He quoted scripture and mentioned suffering but he didn’t mention all of the agony in Texas. As Hair Almighty took the stage with a nuclear smile and a red power tie, he had much to pray about, and most of it was in the state he has been running for more than a decade.

According to researchers in the Texas Legislative Study Group, 17.3 percent of the state’s population lives in poverty, 4.26 million people. 66 percent of Latino children and 59 percent of black children live in low-income families, compared to 25 percent of white children. 28 percent or 6.1 million of the population of Texas is uninsured, the largest share of uninsured in the nation. And if you are a woman with a child and in financial straits, don’t come knocking on Uncle Tex’s door for a handout. In 2010, the average monthly benefit for Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) recipients in Texas was $26.86, the lowest in the country. Yes, that’s for a month. You want more, you better pray. But so far that hasn’t worked in Texas.
Perry didn’t pray about any of that or the fact that Texas is 50th in workers’ compensation, 50th in percent of women receiving prenatal care, 50th in percent of non-elderly women with health care, 50th in per capita spending on mental health, 49th in per capita state spending on Medicaid. Texas was sad before he became governor but Rick Perry has turned the state into a tragedy.

The information about Perry and the state he is destroying indicates he is both mean and stingy, and at The Response he proved that he hangs out with organizations that promote hatred against certain types of people. They all claim tolerance, of course, and inclusion, but take the folding chairs out of Reliant Stadium and roll out some prayer rugs for a Muslim Day of Prayer for America and see what happens. Perry has used his office, his tax paid time, state letterhead, and the Texas brand to promote a single religion. The man who would protect the Constitution as president begins his campaign with a gross violation of one of its most basic tenets.

    Let’s hope he doesn’t have a prayer.
