I was quoting the website of the source that I found. "Im Bru is the 'other' Scottish drink". I thought that was a comical way to promote a soda since Scotch is known as the chief drink in cultural circles. Do they ever get mixed together?

I am not a drinker of alcohol or knowledgeable about such things so please note - no offence intended.

I will confess that on one holiday in the Bahamas, I tasted and fell in love with pineapple juice and coconut rum. DH, to his great amusement, gently escorted me back to our room after a few drinks from the welcoming punchbowl. I thought that one should be able to taste alcohol and I couldn't taste anything but delicious fresh pineapple juice served in coconuts. It was soooooo good!

I can't drink anything stronger than beer, and limited at that, but I do hope John Prine is enjoying a ginger ale and vodka these days.

    When I get to heaven
    I'm gonna shake God's hand
Thank Him for more blessings than one man can stand
Then I'm gonna get a guitar
    And start a rock-n-roll band
    Check into a swell hotel
    Ain't the afterlife grand?

And then I'm gonna get a cocktail
    Vodka and ginger ale
Yeah, I'm gonna smoke a cigarette that's nine miles long
I'm gonna kiss that pretty girl on the tilt-a-whirl
'Cause this old man is goin' to town

I'm a huge John Prine fan but have never tried one of his trademark Handsome Johnny's. Maybe I should.

It also appears to be a fairly frugal drink. He described it this way: "If you get too good vodka it kills the bubbles in your ginger ale. I use diet ginger ale because the other kind is too sweet after a while, you don’t want to get diabetes from drinking it. And in the winter time I drop a lime in it, don’t squeeze it just drop it in from about six inches above."

I have some Reed's in the other room.

I had some Irn Bru at a local Scottish festival. Ick. Tasted like bubble gum soda with a little orange flavor in there.

They do have some funny commercials though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlkr0ML9SQ4

At our Burns Dinner years ago I bought some Ginger Beer, but was not sure if it had alcohol in it.

it does not have alcohol, right?

My understanding was some ginger beers had a small amount of alcohol. Or so it was when I was introduced to it, and last I had it, not recently.
