Big turnout here too. Glad it was peaceful everywhere.

Came back early from our short getaway to attend the NO KINGS protest. There were about 2,000 in attendance (by my estimation). Protesters against trump and his administration encompassed both sides of the road for blocks. It was uplifting to see people come out in force! It will be interesting to hear the actual count. It was encouraging too to see government workers, bus drivers, police and a variety of business vehicles either honk their horns in support or have posters in vehicles in protest of the king wannabe. There were a few news stations documenting so we shall see if the media coverage will be squelched? The only police presence I saw was authorizing the towing of parked vehicles.
ETA …. Local station said 300 in attendance… total b.s. Organizers counting on the small stretch I frequented said count was at 450 and not done counting JUST that small area.

I like seeing these demonstrations against authoritarian rule. Would have been nice to start earlier, but better late than never.
Claims are made that ~7 million people attended these protest marches/rallies yesterday.
The federal government claimed ahead of time that the participants and organizers were some sort of violent leftist conspiracy, the enemies within, people who hate America.
How many cities went up in flames yesterday? How many violent battles between the protesters and law enforcement occurred? How many arrests were made?
In my village, the participants seemed to mostly be people I have known for decades, who vibrantly participate in civic life here. Local law enforcement wasn’t on scene even. We had a couple firefighter/emt/paramedics in the crowd just in case of injury or illness, it is common with our demographics for any large public gathering to have someone who needs a bit of help.
Our open-mic format for our event allowed anyone to come up and say their piece. Most people spoke on topics related to their love of the Constitution, the rule of law, healthcare, ending wars, that sort of un-American nonsense. There were no calls for violence.
And in my village even there were No King protests that made the news on the West coast. We heard reports from Oregon and San Diego. It is very odd to have tiny Hermann featured but whatevah. I suppose one could spin it as “even in the conservative Heartland there are demonstrations.”
Well. I think this "red state/blue state" division is nonsense, in some important ways. If you look at the precinct-level election results, you'll notice that we all live together, cheek-by-jowel, and that really the USA is sort of a "purple" color. We have to be able to work together.
In my own county, which is the most progressive county in a progressive state, Trump got 22% of the vote in the 2024 elections. He got 23% here in 2020. 25% in 2016.
I couldn't find any numbers for the Denver protest. My little municipality had a couple hundred. I really don't like crowds and didn't go but have my own way of contributing to the resistance. It's ironic that the GOP referred to the protesters as enemies and unAmercian after touting the Jan. 6 rioters as some little more than tourists.
I don't know when the bigger divisions between parties started, if it wasn't always there. Maybe the Obama era. There hasn't been a recent election that could be called a landslide, but anymore it's like the losing party doesn't exist rather than a representation of the spectrum of American voters.
