We have early voting here, but standing in line hurts my knees, so I have permanent vote by mail setup with Cook County. I just checked and they do have drop boxes available during early voting and on Election Day. I'll have to check that out for the Nov election. I've always mailed before.

You mean actually get in your car and drive to a designated site to complete a ballot on site and turn it in?

that’s quite a lot for many citizens. Sure I wish people took it more seriously that would be a priority, but they do not

Some countries fine the citizens who do not vote. I think it’s Australia or New Zealand Land among others. I find that approach interesting but I would not want us to start it up.

    edited to fix “fine”

The point being with early voting, there are NO lines! I have gone in 2 states and never stood in line. And, if that were the case, you had to stand, I am sure you could be accommodated. As noted previously, vote by mail may be a dubious and waste of time in the coming elections. If you truly want your vote counted YOU will have to take the necessary steps (no pun intended) to make it happen!

In both states, I have been fortunate. I could either walk or drive (did while running errands so not out of the way) a few miles. People drive to drop boxes! Makes more sense to go to early voting now to ensure and visualize your vote being tabulated. The current administration is making and will continue to make voting more difficult. IMO.. if we want to keep our democracy, we need to do ALL WE CAN to ensure our vote is tabulated. I believe the systems, checks and balances we had in place previously were legitimate and were proven to be so by MANY courts and legal challenges by the current administration. As witnessed by the current protests in our country, people are not happy! trump has to find a way to keep power and making it hard to vote is a way!

I can only get to early voting on weekends due to work schedule. Every time I've got first thing on a Saturday, there are people wrapped around the block to get in. So in my case, there have always been HUGE lines. I'll try the ballot drop box for the next election. I've always just mailed it in as soon as I got it. I'm not one of these people who mails shit late.

Early voting here means filling out your ballot in the comfort of your home, signing it, placing it in a provided, doubly secure envelope and driving or walking up to a secure ballot box. I've never stood in line. OR mailing it in, but I would give it a week.
My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far today, I have finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already!

The last time I voted traditionally was a long time ago and I remember getting off work in the late afternoon to vote. By that time the polls were popular with people working a regular day and the line was outside the polling place, which happened to be during an early snow and sleet storm. The interim was applying for an absentee ballot, now mail in ballots just rrives in the mail on time. If there are really more secure ways of voting it seems it would be offset by reducing the number of voters for one reason or another.

I appreciate Colorado's mail in or drop off options. In the last state, we stood in line at a funeral home for at least an hour to use a voting booth.

I’ve raised the signal about mail in voting. Now it is up to you.

All you knitters out there, get the Melt the Ice pattern on ravelry--it's five dollars. If you don't knit, buy the pattern for someone who does!
