Aw, thanks Bluestreak. He's actually arriving a little later than expected - probably tomorrow night - and will catsit for me while I go on a hiking trip with friends for a few days. Then I'll spend time with him next weekend. But because I've been doing all this decluttering, the guestroom looks really nice for him which will make the whole visit more relaxing.

My daughter and I spent a couple of hours this morning decluttering, after which I carted off 27 things to Goodwill and posted a bunch more on Buy Nothing.

    New total for hours: 33.5.

New total for items gotten rid of: 64.

I've spent about an hour the last couple of days posting things to Buy Nothing, packing things up and labeling them for different people and dropping off other stuff at Goodwill. I took 32 more things to Goodwill today and gave away 14 others on Buy Nothing.

    New total for hours: 34.5.

New total for items gotten rid of: 110.

So I didn't make my goal of getting to 40 hours before my houseguest got here, but I exceeded my goal of getting rid of 100 things. I'm going out of town tomorrow for a few days but will resume the decluttering when I get back!

Haven't done much since I got home from my trip, but I did spend 30 minutes decluttering the car today. I thought I'd kept on top of it, but ... nope. Lots of loose paper and other stuff into the trash.

    New total: 35.

I did two hours last week when I had to clean up for a catsitter, and an hour today. New total: 38.

I know the way I'm approaching decluttering right now is a little like binge dieting - just doing these big pushes when people are coming over - and that what I really need to work on is establishing better habits. But I'm taking the attitude that something is better than nothing.

    Thanks, iris lilies and nswef!

I did another hour today and recycled three grocery bags of paper. New total: 39.
