Let's not play both ends against the middle, ok? Moderation is subjective. All the mods will admit it and all the members know it. Our goal, as mods, is not to stamp anything out, it is simply to do what we can to foster an open environment where people feel comfortable laying their cards on the table to promote discussion of the given topic. The VAST majority of the time no moderation is even remotely called for. When it is, the result is usually a reminder to let emotions settle down a bit. Every mod has their own style. Like anyone else we all see the world through our own unique lens. Occasionally that will lead to a decision that rubs a few others the wrong way. Sorry about that, but it isn't any different than any other aspect of life where there is human interaction. It's also why the mods all communicate to each other when anything more than the aforementioned gentle reminder is called for. I'm usually torn between saying, "can't we all just get along?" (but you'd have to gag me with a fork) and "how about we all grow up and act like adults with more than one layer of skin?". Actually, that's what I'd like to say to our whole @*#% country right now, but that's a different thread.
