It may be a male thing but I don't feel the need to justify it. Being retired and home alone every day, I have cable news on the TV from the time I get up in the morning until my wife gets home in the afternoon. It's not loud because I'm usually reading something while watching and I'm one of those guys who can't concentrate on the written word in a noisy environment. The TV says on while I wander around the house or even if I go outside for yard work since I know I'll only turn it back on when I come back in.
