Okay--thanks for axing mee that quession. I cannot just give a simple "yes"or "no" answer to such an important subject. Nope. A rough chronology of events RE: Fixing those particular cats is in order. See? Well, I'd had Fuzzy, my dark gray male cat for about 7-8 months, when in late July, 2020, I took him to the clinic I had been using for 30 years. That was oh--$65, I think. So, I next planned to get the tiny fem cat spayed, but guess what? By the time my appointment came around & I took her in, she was showing. This was in early Sept 2020. The vet checked her records, and said yes, it times out right and just like on Maury Povich---"Hee beez Da Daddy!". So yeah, I called her Teen Mom, and she gave birth in late Sept. She just had 3; the two males, one of which was noticeably larger & a classic cream tabby and the runt, a dark gray w/cream specks girl. The other male is cream striped Tabby. The mom is a silver-gray tabby with faint markings and pea-green eyes. The daddy has pea-green eyes, too. So does the little female, BUT the boys both have amber eyes. Yup. So, the quote for the day is from that mOO-vEE, Forrest Gump, but I paraphrase/rephrase it by saying: A litter o' cats is like a box o' choclits; you never know what you're gonna get! Ha. But yeah. The kittens are over 1 1/2 now, and they are still growing. The female is a tomboy, I spose due to her upbring with two large male catts. Anyway, in about March of 2021,I took the Teen Mom & her Girlbaby in,and got 'em "spaded". Yup. What happened was, my 30-year vet begged off the surgeries, saying she's just had surgery on her hands for carpal tunnel! She suggested I take them downtown to the low-cost neuter spay clinic, but they were booked up, quite aways ahead. Well, there's a vet clinic 30 miles from me that animal people use because it's no frills/low cost. So, I made the appointment with them, and got mom & baby done at the same time. I think the bill was $175,comparable to the Spay Clinic downtown. So, that left the two boys, and they were nice kitty boys---very, very nice---about 95% of the time. Ha. But then---emergency,emergency,emergency---I got a call that a cat had been hanging out at a motel over here for a few days, with traffic that was murder, & no one had come around looking for her; would I be willing to take her in & hang onto her, for her safety? So, yeah--I went over there at midnight, and got the kitty. The next few days, I went over that way, and behind the Mo-tel & Aldi's are two low-end apt plexes. well, I drove around in the lots, looking for lost cat signs, which I did not see, but I did see several vacant apartments with piles of household items stacked up at the curb, as though they'd moved in a hurry. So watched the pet lost & found, and the mo-tel clerk had a "found" ad on there,w/my number, but no one claimed her or reported a cat with that description missing. See? So,I had two Toms & the cat I just got coming into heat. Sooooo, I kept everyone separate, by dog-crating them in shifts, which was not easy, because the boys hated being crated, and howled and yowled, non-stop, until they would take a nap. Okay--I decided to call and see who I could get in, and I got the girl scheduled(or so I thought)with the clinic 30 miles away. That was the soonest. So, two weeks later,I drove her over there, and guess what? The appointment setter had her scheduled for just an ultrasound exam, by mistake. No spay, today, jose'. So, I skipped that, and drove her back to town, and called around, because the low-cost clinic was temporarily closed for two weeks! Yup. Apparently, the vet community has gotten a bad case of Yuppie-itis. Typical scenario--a nice, spacious, medical-grade facility on a major thoroughfare. Ceramic tile, stainless-steel, and glass. You walk in, and there are three receptionists, and no other clients, okay? I'm sorry sir, but the Doctor is booked ahead two months(he only does n-s surgeries on the 3rd Thursday of every-other month, apparently),and it'll run $350,plus The Tests, which the Doctor would prefer that your pet have. Plus, vaccinations. He ONLY performs surgeries on pets that are up-to-date on Vaccinations. Yup. So, that'll be $600. Either that, or they aren't taking any new patients. Okay--25 years ago, the Humane Society had a list of at least two dozen participating vets that would N-Sp on a day or two notice for between $25-50,depending on what you had. Cash only. See? But, not any more; those days are gone, what with the cost of country club dues and private planes and weekend getaway homes being what it is. So, anyway--I finally got the new girl done after the N-S low cost clinic re-opened; Then, I rescheduled at the clinic 30 miles away, to get the boys fixed at the same time. The outcome of that, finally, was a more orderly & peaceful existence, around here. But, I do have extra cats, and they are still growing and consume a lot of food. Right now, there seem to be shortages, especially of canned food. But, I'm economizing on certain other things, which has helped. Hope that helps you some. ThankkMee.
