"As it is in Heaven", an Academy award nominee for Best Foreign Language film in 2005. Swedish with English subtitles. A successful international musician returns to his childhood village. It's about the power of music, but not in a cliched way.

We enjoyed The Way too.
I read a news story today about the real Bernie. It said he is being released from prison, and will be staying with Richard Linklater, the moviemaker who documented his case. The film was critically acclaimed, but commercially it was no "Star Wars Xl" or whatever. It sounds good to me, because I like the truth-that-is-stranger-than-fiction stories. Right now, I'm looking for a copy of it.
I saw Bernie and also saw that the real Bernie had got out of jail. That film was ok because Jack Black did an outstanding job, otherwise it was entirely mediocre.
I'll tell you a cute and funny con-man/jail caper film: I love you Phillip Morris. It reminded my why Jim Carrey is a big talent. Too often he is over the top, but here he was sweet and funny as hell and yes, a little manic. But it is about 2 gay men, so avoid it if that's not your thing.
I just returned a few to the library. Dallas Buyer's Club, The Butler (preceded by the director's name, cannot remember) and Gravity. They were fine, although I especially liked the final scenes in Gravity.
Bernie was a nice movie, too. It has been a while and I think I will reserve it again. I also want to borrow Alice's Restaurant, just to see how it has or has not aged. Probably aged, yes?
I have the Alice's Restaurant cook book and used to make a lot of the stuff in it. My favorite recipe was for jitter-free Irish coffee. You get yourself a bottle of nice whiskey. Take a slug. Next, shoot whipped cream from a can into your mouth. Repeat as desired/needed.

We had craft day with family yesterday and we always put a movie we've seen in as background. Yesterday was "Forrest Gump", "The Fifth Element" and "Mulan". it was nice revisiting these movies, as it's been a while since I watched them...or half-watched them - lol. I had forgotten how much I really enjoyed The Fifth Element!

We watched "Bernie" last night. I rented it because several of you liked it......which, for awhile, was confusing to me. Then I realized that it wasn't the same movie as "A Weekend with Bernie". hahaha
I thought it was interesting, and really liked them using the real townspeople. But I wish they had developed the dislike the town had for the woman more. And his response to what he did to her seemed to be out of line with who he was up to that point. Jack Black did a good job. I don't think they needed to use Shirley MacClaine for that part. I do wish they had spent more time on how rotten a person she was.
Black has a good voice.
Iris.......this might be the article you mentioned.
SPOILER ALERT............................
It sure makes me feel differently about him (Bernie).

Yes. Probably! I remember going to the movie theatre to see that movie, and really loved it. But I do remember it being so full of hippie stuff that was so familiar to those of us that lived through it. I can only imagine that I would watch it now and say "huh?"
Edited to add: You can actually watch it in its entirety on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0jfwlWDgto

My friend and I binge-watched The Fall, a serial killer thriller by the BBC. It stars Gillian Anderson and the detective and it takes place in Belfast. I liked it a lot for this type of thing but a large part of that is the setting.
It's on Netflix Streaming.
