    Smile Baby Quilt

I have a new quilt going for a baby due in 5 months. Even at my glacial speed, I should be able to have it done in time.

Hmmm, I wanted to insert only the picture but I don't know how so this is the link to the blog post.

You're well on your way. I like the churn dash block--it's traditional but still fresh--and blue and yellow is always cheery. Do you have a quilt pattern picked out? Hand or machine?

Those are both just beautiful, Florence! What a nice gift. I just sent my mom a hand knit pink alpaca blanket for Mother's Day. She loves it. I'm sure the one you made will be well received...

Jane, I do the piecing on the sewing machine but the quilting by hand. When I first started quilting many years ago, I did the piecing by hand but found that the quilt holds up better when it is pieced by machine.

Awakened, I know your mother loved the blanket! I never got the hang of knitting but wish I had.

Well you sure got the hang of quilting! I would give the knitting another try, if you miss it. I think having an excellent teacher and being around talented knitters helps. And, yes, my mom loved the blanket. She thinks I should sell them. I think I'll make one for my dad, too...Fathers Day is coming up soon!

When I quilted, I always pieced and sometimes did some "in the ditch" quilting by machine, but did any visible quilting by hand. I like hand quilting, but never got particularly good at it.
