Do I exist in space at all, or just cyberspace? Ok I guess I could take a rant like this in many directions. But one begins to think they don't exist anywhere particular anymore. I go on dates with guys that live on one side of town 20 miles from me, I go to job interviews 30 miles in the *other* direction from me. This is insane!

Although commuting for work (and full time work as I used to work part-time) has put such a psychic strain on me, that at this point, I want to avoid the commuting at all costs in the future. I dream of living 2 miles from work or something. Then I'll just commute 100 miles to my social life or something at the rate things are going. I am blown apart, my commuting is expanding with the universe at this point.

For the last 6 years of my career, I lived 5 blocks from my office. Actually had people ask if they could drive me home. I made it to work in blizzards, rainstorms, etc. and never complained. Hubby could round trip in his car in less than 10 minutes from his workplace if he forgot something and walk the 1.5 miles if it was good weather.

    Commuting can be soul sucking.

My condolences. For 12 years my commute involved a car, two trains, a subway and a three block walk, and could take close to 2 hours each way. I started looking at it as the equivalent of a second job during which I could do more or less whatever I wanted, as long as it involved sitting still. I decided that was preferable to working 2 jobs closer to home for half the pay. It still sucked.

Commuting does, truly, suck. I spent hours on buses and hours in my car over the years. I had three different jobs with easy commutes (think ten minutes or less) and that made all the difference in how I felt when I got to work. With the advent of telecommuting, I really don't get why so much of it is still necessary.

drove in spurts all day for work, audiobooks saved the day. I could not deal with an extra 4 hrs commute everyday, much credit to you guys, maybe if I was on the train and could read. But that is a grueling amount

Cheap Kroger facial tissue that leaves a fine white residue under your nose that you don't notice for awhile...

Sounds like a cop/drug test story.

Saw an Amazon Prime commercial on TV, some goofy images of a guy walking with his dog in a backpack or something similar. What attracted my attention was the background music, Lee Marvin singing/growling "I Was Born Under A Wandering Star". Developed an overpowering urge to watch "Paint Your Wagon".

Told my wife, "We have Amazon Prime. We have Amazon's Fire Stick on the TV. Let's watch Paint Your Wagon tonight, haven't seen it in years". Turns out Paint Your Wagon is not available for free streaming for Prime members.

I feel violated. Tempt me then deny me. Not cool Amazon. Not!!! Cool!!!

Good lord, just how stupid CAN these non profits be?

Tonight I picked up a newsletter of a local do-good gardening organization to see that they have selected a kind of lily for their bulb sales that will not grow in Missouri. Yes! I don't buy these lilies because THEY DO NOT GROW HERE. And the do-good org is pushing these lilies to citizens of the region. This organization promotes gardens in our community.

A Google map would show you that these idiots are 2.5 blocks from the Missouri Botanical Gardens where the world's foremost experts on bulbs for St. Louis work. And if they were unable to find Sylvia and Jason The Bulb Boy they could have used that new modern thing called the Internet to find the website of the local Lily society where there is a blog article by yours truly on -- wait for it--the best lilies for St. Louis.

tl;dr. Oriental lilies do not grow in the St. Louis region and anyone who tries to sell you bags of them is a scam artist.

My commute hasn't been too bad at all the past 7 years or so once I moved out to the suburbs, closer to work. For 4 years I drove 7.5 miles each way. 20 minutes. Then the office moved and my commute exactly doubled, but it's nearly all freeway and not that bad. There is a ton of road construction around the office and it seems to be getting worse, removing route options.
