    Angry Be careful on Craigslist!

My niece just sold a car on Craigslist. The buyer kept putting the time off til it was dark, just came and barely looked at the car, gave her 6500. in cash. The next day
she went to the bank to deposit it and the whole amount was counterfeit. Insurance won't cover it, police can't do anything and feds are only interested in the
money angle, no help with the car!

Why can't the police do anything about it? Wouldn't it be considered theft or fraud?

Usually when you sell a car the transaction of giving over the title must be notarized, that should have caught the fraudulent use of names. Sorry this happened to her.

In some states you actually don't have to notarize the sale of a vehicle anymore - thought I think it should be required again due to all the fraud and theft that happens.

I am sorry this happened to your niece. We considered trying to sell some unneeded furniture on Craigslist but heard too many negatives and went another route

I haven't had that be the case in any of the (3) Western states I've lived in.

i sold a piano on kijiji which is similar to Craigs List and the email spam that came with it made me determined never to do that again. Thanks goodness I generated a new email address for just that item.
