It called democracy in action, Peggy. If you don't like it vote with your feet, move. Teapartiers don't call themselves this, another far-left fairy tale. The term was first smirked, giggled about and used on MSNBC - look no further than your Keith Olbermann and Anderson Cooper of CNN...If you know what it means, you shouldn't use it.

These tea[I]persons[I] took our country to the brink of default just so they would get their way. Like a bunch of spoiled, ignorant brats. Economic terrorism if you ask me. And the country was the hostage. this is NOT how a democracy works. Total disregard for our country or how the world works. S&P stated that this 'brinkmanship' was the reason for the downgrade. They created this crisis and now we all have to live with the consequence. And they will do it again. Successful terrorist always repeat their actions.
You don't think that a deficit that equals the country's annual gross domestic product, with absolutely no significant attempt to keep it from reaching 110%, 130% or even 200% in the next decade, had anything to do with it? You're smarter than that aren't you?

It was S&P that had Lehman Brothers rated AAA just a month before they went bankrupt. It was S&P that rated AIG’s credit default swaps as rock solid investment's the weekend before they went bankrupt so I kind of think that does not lend to their credibility - but you are getting your threads mixed up.

This thread is about bringing religion into the political arena. The Teabaggers (those that hang teabags on their hats) are indeed the reason that we find ourselves in this situation. The US would never default on it's debt - we control the printing presses it was simply a political move by those that confuse oversight with politics.

If Moody's or A.M. Best or Morningstar, etc., follows suit, will you ignore that as well?

Sorry, didn't actually get the threads mixed up, I just responded to someone else's confusion. My Bad!

And you are smarter than this to say that this had anything but this Russian roulette with our debt limit to blame for the downgrade. The teabaggers wanted this, and did everything they could to bring this about so they could crash the economy and rebuild it in their image. So the tea baggers are not only ignorant, but cowards, when they refuse to 'own' this.
So, when the world sees that the United States of America can be toppled by a small, petulant minority (no, that's not democracy in action, but economic terrorism) then they react. We get downgraded,(they stated why we got this downgrade, no need to speculate) and your rich buddies lose more in the stock market fall than they would have had to pay in a small increase in the tax rate. Everything is connected, but maybe that's too complex a concept for some to understand.
But I guess it's the principal of the thing. Maybe they'd rather lose a lot to the market crash than contribute, fairly, even a little, to the well being of their fellow Americans, and America.

Peggy, I realize that everything's simple in your world, but you've greatly over-simplified the reasoning behind the downgrade. You can get the real reason, right from the horses mouth here.

Those infernal Tea Partiers did have a hand in the process since they were against raising taxes, however your esteemed President and Democrat controlled Senate bear the brunt of the reason due to their complete unwillingness to do anything serious regarding future expenses.

I honestly believe that if the Senate had passed the House's Cut, Cap and Balance bill, and the President had not vetoed it (which he assured us he would), this entire embarrassment could have been averted. Every other measure which the Senate and President allowed to proceed was guaranteed to achieve the current conclusion.

I have a hard time accepting S&P's opinion on anything after their stamps of approval on Enron & the other various plunderers who have fked us all. This mess is a complex weave. It would be addressed if the Gov't put the freakin' wars into the budget.

I run my household largely balanced; that said, I also borrowed for important things, like my home & education. Some years I run a deficit, and make the choice to do so. Some years I had more income than others through pure luck.

Thanks for posting that link, Redfox! Wow, amazing....100,000 people less than 5 miles from the Prayer Fest (with their bus loads of people brought in) waiting for free school supplies. That show the real need in our society these days and just think how much money was wasted on that prayer fest. Maybe the "spirit of love" just floated down the road to all of the poor - yea, that's the ticket.

Those sentiments are ridiculous Zigzag. The people who attend prayer meetings are among the most generous in the world. Absolutely ridiculous arguments...Free school supplies are always provided by churches, yes evangelical churches, local merchants, lots of funds available. Ridiculous bullcrap
