To all the people who said that I was heartless because I, like most Americans, don't like to wear masks (ditch the mandate and you'll see how few wear them voluntarily) saying "masks are needed to protect chemo patients who can't get vaccinated" you were wrong. I heard Dr. Fauci interviewed today and they and transplant recipients have been getting vaccines, but they aren't as effective in this population which is why they will be getting boosters soon.

Protection in layers. The vaccines help but for some people they aren’t enough. Masks help but obviously they’d line aren’t enough. Social distancing helps but isn’t enough because we can’t do it completely. Put all 3 together and now we have an actual plan to limit sickness and death.

Chicago announced today there have been about 350ish known cases of the plague from Lollapalooza two weeks ago. Something like 380K people here. They were surprised there weren’t more cases.

Did all 380K get tested? LOL. Just kidding. I imagine there were only 350ish cases REPORTED.

All were either tested or vaccinated prior to the concert.

And I suppose you want us to do all three forever. Because covid will never disappear. How else should we turn our lives upside down to protect the few immunocompromised people from innumerable other germs out there? Should we shut down the economy again? Walk around in hazmat suits?

After all according to some even one death is too much.

Maybe we should ban alcohol, or driving, because if hit by a drink driver an immunocompromised person would have a harder time surviving injuries. Or how about driving up the cost of cars by mandating they all come equipped with breathalyzers? (Not you, but someone else here recommended that.)

I remember when chemo patients had to limit their contacts with others while in treatment, but why should they? Let's make everyone else alter their behavior instead, and let's put the full force of the government behind it by mandating it.

Went to the grocery store yesterday and now even some of the employees aren't wearing masks despite the sign on the doors saying masks regardless of vax status. Hard to say anything to us maskless customers when we can point out employees doing the same.
