Oh, I don't think it's as selective as you imply. I think most people agree there's a place in society for abortion when the mother's health is in jeopardy or the baby will be born with severe disabilities, the major difference seems to be whether there should be unfettered access to abortions and whether or not a fetus is a person with an unalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
I think men involved in impregnating a woman who doesn't want the baby and can't get an abortion should be castrated. You might say that a vasectomy would suffice, indeed it will prevent the man from doing further damage, but the damage is already done is the problem. If the woman has to endure labor ...

How serious is this proposal? How serious is men (of all things) weighing in on matters that affect biological females exclusively and assuming they have any right to?

Except that in a pandemic involving an airborne virus efforts at prevention require everyone to participate in order for the effort to be effective. It’s not much freedom if a parent’s only choice for safety is to keep their kids home from school.

I suppose in the coming years the anti science efforts of republicans will include attempting to shutdown the CDC and fire all local public health officials since they have zero respect for the work those organizations and people do.

Who cares that you could spread he variant to unvaccinated children and make them very ill or even die. Birth control or abortion? Oooh….wait a minute. We care about unborn lives and too bad how the mother feels, even if there is a good reason. Those women. They have a lot of nerve thinking they have rights.

and by the way, I have to wear a seatbelt, drive the speed limit, to protect myself and others. We are forced to pay into social security whether or not we want to. Masks and vaccinations? Is “freedom” is more important than a life?
Actually, since you asked the question, yes— freedom is more important than one life.

Well, during the Trump Years, the CDC was basically gutted, it will take years for it to recover.

And I don't know if you have noticed, but large numbers of local public health officials have been leaving the profession during the pandemic. Good luck getting anyone capable to take those jobs in the future.

Such a good question. Looking forward to hearing responses.

ETA: maybe could be framed as freedom to be able to do certain things without scrutiny as well as freedom from being subjected to certain conditions.

I'm not surprised you'd reach that supposition, even though it's silly.

I suspect freedom is either the ability to do whatever you want regardless of it's effect on others. Or else it's the powerful doing what they will and the powerless suffering what they must.
