Yup. It's prolly midway between those locations, right next to what was formerly known as Minnesota avenue. Surprised that the house wasn't razed when they re-did Minnesota & renamed it after Walter Hickel. He was a developer who put in a lot of commercial buildings in the 50's, including the Safeway Store where I worked. It used a proprietary Safeway design--there's one like it a couple miles from me, and I saw one in a Michael Buble song video filmed in Canada. Even though Anchorage has greatly incresed in size, I've noticed--looking on google maps---that there are many, many seemingly insignificant older structures there that still remain in use. Around this part of the country, it's knock er down and start over.
Banks, Hamburger joints, and Gas stations are especially notorious for that. The old burger stand in Anchorage(The Bun) is long gone, but the place I banked looks the same, but the gas station has been remodeled. The old safeway has been turned into a gym, but Safeway bought out their local competitor & it looks the same as it did 50 years ago. Hope that helps you some.

I never set foot in "Koots", but it was on the agenda for the 50th(and now the 55th) reunion. Oh, yeah---the high school is still there, with a few changes.

I spent quite a few Saturday nights there, eating peanuts and dropping the shells on the floor.

Yah, that's what Koots is there for. they have live entertainment, imported from the lower 48. We were discussing how, just after the place opened, one of our classmates was murdered there, by a jilted boyfriend. I do not recollect even hearing about it. Also, a guy who grew up in a littlebitty I-wah town(Poky) in the middle o' nowhere, and opened a donut shop in Anchorage, was arrested for being a prolific serial killer. I read not one, but two books about the case. I did a little digging on the net, and his two ex-wives are still living; one in Ark, and the other waaay up in Minna-sooota. Also, I found a google maps photo of his former home in anchorage, which I'll post. But first--here's a google aerial of the spenard area of Anch. Koot's is located in the upper right; and the apartment plex & tiny house are to the left of the "Walter" in waler Hickel parkway. And, to the extreme lower left is Ted Stevens airport. In the fall of 1970, a military transport bound for 'nam crashed & burned out there, killing several dozen soldiers. They didn't even have a chance to fight the spread of godless commie-nizm! I recall seeing the wreckage still smoldering, when I made a trip out there to the post office sorting station.

No worries Bobby, I know that area pretty well. Lived on Northern Lights Blvd in the mid 70's.

Ok--here's a photo of interest for you true-crime buffs. Recognize him? An amazing factoid is that he graduated from the high-school I attended as a sophmoron in Washington. He died last year, though. Can anyone guess his name? He's been on TV and mentioned in numerous books and articles.2022-02-27.jpg2022-02-27.jpg

Okay--times up. Forget it, you'll never guess, anyway. It's the late great Bob Keppel. Okay---here's another VERY interesting subject. Guess who will be appearing at the Climate Pledge Arena in See-I'm-Addled on May 2 & 3? One of my (few) F-Book friends was tooting his horn about how he already had his Tickicks bought. Ha. Anymore, I just let it go, because that way I can monitor my cases for other interesting stuff. Such as, an aging Boomer attempting to recapture their youth for three long hours, sitting in an old hockey stadium listening to a geezer-billionaire raking in even more ill-gotten gains rehashing "meee-shelll, mah bell, som de monkee bonk tre bien insane" and other stuff. Ha. Hey--it's not 1966, anymore. I ain't gonna see 1/4 of the mop-topped foursome. I don't worship these people. Hope that helps you some. Thank Mee.2022-02-28 (1).jpg
