Here's another classic bike from the lbb collection. It started out as a 1986 Schwinn Passage, that I purchased new. But a lot of the original components fell by the wayside(figuratively),such as the weelz, the front fork, the handlebars & stem; the seat, the rear derailleur, the crankset, pedals, and I believe the front derailleur. Yup It does have the original rear rack, cantilever brakes. Unrestored 1986 Passages show up on EBay and Craigslist for ree-diculous prices, for some reason. Anyway, it's my Packard Bike. Schwinn DID in fact market a Packard-branded bike, back in the late 30's, early 40's, and I acquired an old headbadge off of one from an EBay seller, and put it on. Ha. Also, this Passage has mostly new old stock Sakae components--handlebars and stem(used), derailleurs(new).and bar end levers. Yup. But, it has a early Trek front fork, a Trek Shimano crankset, Shimano pedals, and of course--one o' them VERY comfterble dealer take-off LIV seats from the bike shop. Plus, other stuff, including a home-built 12 volt front/rear lighting system that uses a rechargeable milwaukee drill battery. Too Cool for the Cool People. Last summer, I showed up at the Annual Pancake ride--which features Poky I-wahs' Chris Cakes---for a 50-miler out and around in the hills. I had the ONLY tricked-out Schwinn at the ride; AND the only bike with fenders; the other 125 people had nice new Modern bikes, fresh from the bike shop. They can afford it--they are in health care! See? But, it all went well. Okay--I forgot to tell you about the weelz. I picked up a pair of old, but never used, wheel rims, off EBay. These are Titan Tour 2 by Trek. Ha. No spokes, no hubs. So, I bought new shimano hubs, new spokes, and put them together. Had to take the weelz in a couple times to re-true them, until they finally took a set. I used them on another bike, for 1000's of miles. But, I decided they'd be perfect for the Packard bike, which originally used 27" weelz. See---these are 700c size, but are wider than your usual700c. So, they matched up to the Schwinns brakesand also I was able to used a bargain-priced pair of 700-32 Continental tires that I purchased from someone because they won't fit a lot of your newer frames. See? This bike is a little heavy(ha), but it rides like a dream. Sure does. Hope that helps you some. Thank Mee.

Photo of Packard Bike Schwinn Okay--what I forgot to tell you is that Schwinn, Suntour, and of course, Packard all went out of business, long ago. Before most of you kids were even born! So, this bike is what you might call Obsolete. It does NOT have the latest technology--except for the cheapest Garmin made. Yup.102_1291.jpg102_1291.jpg102_1290.jpg102_1290.jpg

If that is the one I think it is, it has its place (foldable, portable bike for inner city uses, also looks like one Daewoo used to give if you didn't choose the spare tire option).
About 10 years back, a friend found some old cruiser bikes (either beach cruisers or old post war single speed bicycles), and put those import little motors on them to make them something like a Whizzer.
Unfortunately, that took off around here and those old frames skyrocketed.
I love the idea, and think it would be fun to ride, while giving extended range and speed. I want to make it look like an early motorcycle.
T/M/S, yes, I agree with you---electric bromptons have their place---in the landfill. Ha. My old bikes are all Packy-Powered. Yup. No high-tech, for littlebittymee. Nope. Hope that helps you some. Thankk Mee.
Okay--I promised you kids a virtual tour o' some stigmatized properties. First off--these two are not in my 'hood. But, they are located fairly close together, approximately 5 miles from me. No question they are stig-ma-tized. I wouldn't give 2 cents for the deed to either of these properties. Nope. Hope that helps you some. Thank me.2022-03-19 (2).jpg2022-03-19 (1).jpg2022-03-19 (1).jpg2022-03-19 (1).jpg2022-03-19 (1).jpg
