Saw a bunch of Canada geese flying north.

Daffodils in bloom!!!!

Here in the Northern Highland of Wisconsin, flocks of redpolls are migrating to more northern latitudes. The dark red on the male redpolls is fabulous next to the deep green of spruce boughs. Those guys are welcome to have their fill of sunflower seeds in my feeder. And so are the less showy females!

For me the climax of spring is still in the future: going to bed with the windows open and listening to the spring peepers. All winter they have been frozen solid under fallen leaves and 2 feet of snow. I can imagine how good it must feel to be able to first move their toes and open their eyes during the lengthening days of spring. Oh yeah, when their bodies finally thaw out, they have something to sing about... finding a mate!

We got our first measurable rain in 86 days overnight.

The crocuses are up.

Mud season in full swing. water creeping up the common land as the ice thaws on the lake--geese are swimming in the large puddles, much to the chagrin of my goose-hating neighbor. No buds yet.

We've had peeper frog music for 2 weeks! I love it!

The last of the snow has melted. I see forsythia, daffodils, azalea, tulips, dandelions, trees in bud. Life is good!

1 iris friend is 17 days behind normal bloom

1 iris friend is 12 days behind last year

My April 24th Tall Bearded iris, one I love that is the harbinger of TB season, one that always blooms by April 24th, doesn't even have stalks yet.

i dont mind a late season other than it throws a wrench in any Iris Society plans for conferences and shows.
