I bought my Prius new in '07 and am still driving it (142k miles) and plan to continue, maybe until I die (I'm a lot older than you).
Have also been majorly burned loaning/cosigning for people as favors.
Also believe that joining a gym is a waste of money. Reducing dependencies on paid outside labor and machines will keep you in shape.
Also am conscious of wearing out fabric so I line dry in the summer.
    Also wash baggies.
ERE sets a high bar. I love how he breaks things down using mostly simple straightforward language and logic, reminds me of a mechanical engineering professor I had, many joked he could enlighten chimpanzees on mechanics of materials.

That's a great car, hopefully it keeps going.

I think the other thing that you learn from loaning to someone and not being repaid is that although there are probably exceptions, often enough if someone is asking you to loan them money it's because they have a pattern of living just at or beyond their means, which probably won't change with financial help from others. Those who don't tend to have some money squirrelled away and don't ask for/require loans.

Line drying is a great idea, especially in summer when a dryer can further heat up the house.

My car is a 2008 Toyota Corolla with 65k miles. It’s probably my last car. I never put my sweaters, shirts or pants in the dryer. I have a drying rack in my spare bedroom. We aren’t allowed to dry on our patio or balcony.

I bring home the leftover of the bar of soap when I stay in a hotel. I couldn’t tell you the last time I bought soap to shower with.

Great example of extreme cheap, jp!

Another one of mine is, I make a pot of coffee every day, and if I don't finish it, I microwave it the next morning. I refuse to throw out perfectly good coffee.

I'm not particularly frugal at this point, but I fixed several office-style plastic waste baskets with duct tape years ago, and I'm still using them today.

These are fun to read. I can't think of anything that we do that is extreme.

I think this is really profound. I identify with the part about squirrelling money away. That was my mom, and I do the same thing, and then I give/lend it to my children. Hhmm. Interesting to think about.

I never really thought of them as extreme, but ever since the start of the pandemic I've made my own bread, except when it get too hot to bake. I also make my own pizza crust and granola. My 50's house had one of the few clothes lines left in the neighborhood and I use it routinely instead if the dryer. It's sort of a mystery to me why clothes lines have fallen out of favor. Also, I've never thought of it as extreme, although others may argue, but I am still using my Tracfone instead of a standard cell phone subscription. I now have carry over talk and text minutes to last for years, although I have to be careful about using to much data. And, I don't buy meat being somewhat of a vegetarian, other than occasional fish.

Sometimes I freeze leftover coffee in ice cube trays. I'll use it for iced coffee so it doesn't get watered down by regular ice.
