I may actually finish the month on budget. We've had lots of free food at work which helps. My goal was to stay on budget 9 months out of the year and I have only missed one so far, so if I make it this month I am good for the year.
I have also negotiated a higher interest rate on my savings account.
This will be our most un-frugal month in a long while. Teeth and a $5000 deductible on a new roof dmaged by hailstorms. However, we had moved a good chunk of savings to Ally and the monthly interest accrued will help paying for all this.
Got my goddaughter’s Christmas present. $30 Bluetooth keyboard to use with her iPad. I have the same one and love it and asked if she would like one. She was thrilled. She likes to write and having a proper keyboard for iPad will be better. I’ll also give her a pretty journal from my stash. That’s the only Christmas gift I’ll probably give.
We got rid of cable and the land line which will save us $200/month. We have roku and will probably subscribe to a couple of sports networks which will cost us $200/yr so we're still ahead. Husband found a new high speed modem that will increase our internet speed and cost $5 less a month.
I cut DH's hair yesterday, which is a monthly recurring frugal since April of 2020. I figure this practice has saved us about $800 over that time.
We started ordering from Chewy a couple of years ago. First of all, the kitty litter we were buying from Costco was so heavy, and then it seemed like the formulation had gotten dustier over time - "Now with EXTRA dust!" The price was so good that it made it hard to switch, but Chewy has litter that is reasonably priced (although still more expensive), a lot less dusty, plus involves a lot less handling on our part of the 40-lb containers (we just bring it in from the front steps, rather than loading it into a shopping cart, unloading into the car, then bringing it from the car into the house). Then the supply chain disruptions over the past couple of years made it harder to get certain preferred items, and we often had luck getting them from Chewy. So anyway:
I had placed an order a few days ago to take advantage of a deal where spending $100 on eligible items would get me a $30 gift card, plus I use Top Cashback, which was giving me 4% cask back from the purchase. We got the order yesterday, and everything was packed in one big, very heavy box (poor Fedex driver must hate us). The large bag of litter had shifted around inside the box, breaking open a plastic tub of Greenies, and then the corner of another item created a rip in the litter bag, so we had a bit of a mess (and it was raining, so everything was slightly damp). I went online and complained politely to Chewy, and they are sending us a new bag of litter and 2 large tubs of Greenies as an apology, and I was assured the litter would be packed in a separate box. That adds up to about $60. in free merchandise, so I certainly have no complaints about their customer service.
The new Market Basket store finally opened near us, and we shared the $4.75 chicken alfredo penne. It was plenty for two people.
We are burning the new fallen tree in the woodstove.
Interlibrary loan continues to bring us new books to read.

I walked to the library yesterday to print a form. In addition to it being good exercise, I figure it is frugal and environmentally sound. I pay 15 cents for a page, but the bit of effort involved encourages me to really stop and think about whether I need to print something. It is amazing how very few things I actually need to print. Think of all the paper and toner this saves! On my way down the street, a neighbor (who was not heading in my direction), stopped to ask if I needed a ride. Her default seemed to be "why would you walk if you can drive? where my default is more along the lines of "why drive if I can walk?" I thought it was very nice of her to stop and ask, but I also found it interesting to consider our default assumptions.
