    Price of ground beef

The drought in western states was a big factor in the reduction of cattle herds.

Now the prices of live cattle as well as ground beef are higher than ever.

Substitutes for beef make sense to me.

I am making tacos for dinner tonight, using TVP I bought 2 years ago.

It is going to be yummy. I have an oregano plant growing on the sun porch... I am using thin-cut oregano leaves for seasoning along with the usual dry spices.

Did turkeys suffer the same problem or is it just that they are all being sold whole for thanksgiving? Because I just bought ground turkey and it is now $6.99/lb, up from $4.99 two years ago and $5.99 last year. And there used to be a discount for the 3 lb ‘family size’ package but not anymore.

Bird flu is still apparently something of an issue.

I've been the rounds with plant based meat alternatives and I can't say any of them are that good. They do add some texture. Legumes are mostly my ground beef alternative, which are a cost effective alternative. I've been a vegetarian for some time and ground beef doesn't seem that appealing anymore, although a grilled burger with fresh tomatoes in the summer will usually snag me.

Last year we got an entire beef cow, raised by my brother in law. So, we are set for a few years.

By god--don't bad-mouth farmers with your mouth full! They're ones that put food on your table, and meat in your locker and a great big truck in their driveway, by god ! America wasn't built by tofu-eating wimps. Nope. Hope that helps you some. Thank mee.
