    I've experimented with fake meat and cheeses probably since they were commonly available several years ago. It's safe to say that none of them taste the same as what they were intended for as a substitute. The fake meats have improved and Impossible like ground meats can satisfy my burger urge or in something like tacos. Any fake chicken is not even close to real chicken and not appealing to me. Fake cheeses vary by brand, but generally are only good for texture, but not much on flavor. Low fat mozzarella cheese is an acceptable excursion from my self-imposed mostly vegan diet. I'm hoping someday they will make a reasonable fake bacon.

    It has been a lot longer then that since hot dogs were invented.

    Good point

    An out of town friend asked me if I'd ever seen smelt at whole foods, so I did a browsing mission. I did not see smelt, but I did notice, "salmon hot dogs". That might be one for a food experiment some day. I can remember seeing frozen bags of smelt at the supermarket years ago, but not anywhere recently

    Chicken or turkey sausages in a bun make a pretty good hot dog alternative (I like the Applegate organics brand). So processed meat like that even when poultry isn't healthy, but we're talking maybe a few summer holidays.

    This week DH was diagnosed with Alpha-gal syndrome.

    Our doctor told him to give up all mammal meat, as well as cheese and milk. He’s a big consumer of milk, beef, pork, so this will be hard for him. He’s not that much into cheese. Our doctor does acupuncture treatments for Alpha-gal so DH will give that a try. This treatment doesn’t cure the disease, of course, but it relieves symptoms.

    My own experience with this disease in more than a year is that I’m still not convinced it affects me much.

    Yeah, your experience is like that of my husband. And he happily eats cheese and ice cream. Hmm.

    Tradd … Based on your recommendation, I checked and the library here has the book. Just picked it up and looked up the recipe you referenced. Looks good and am definitely going to try it! Looking for salad recipes too. There seems to be a variety of them as well! Any other recommendations welcomed!! Thank you!

    I make the shrimp a lot during Lent and Advent. The bulgar and chickpeas is also good, as is the lentils and rice with carmelized onions.

I guess that ends all the trips to The Bum Steer in 'toona, and the large loads of Lockered Beef and Pork from Rutville, a teeny-tiny town if there ever was one. But, that don't mean he can't have those yummy and delish Ro-chiks from Wally World. Or, Oven-fired flatbreads from Nine-Eleven Missippissi. Nope. Nope. So anyway---a special treat from the Custom-Processor, there in Rutville.. (see photo) One o' the bureaucrats from D.M. paying a visit, ta see IWAH Agerculchure first hand. Yup
