    Post Family matters.

Hi. I don't know if this is the right place to post this. I'm new here but I'd like some advice. How soon is too soon for your parents to call your partner family? My brother has been going out with this girl for two weeks and my parents are already calling her family. Is that concerning behaviour? I'm sure that there's a boundary issue there and it's always been something that I've found slightly odd. Do you think they are calling her family too soon? What do you think?

I suppose it would depend on a lot of specific details.

Dating for two weeks isn't the only factor. There were girls I grew up with, that may have been considered that, because I knew them long before trying to date.

If I may ask, in what way are they calling her "family"?

I can see being welcoming and inclusive to the family - mainly as being respectful to someone my child has chosen to include into their life. But to actually have someone called a "family member" after two weeks... well, the emotional connection or simply getting to know someone that well that soon wouldn't be there for me, personally, for that intimate level of inclusion.
