IL: I'm no expert on library structure and governance, but to the best of my knowledge, it is a single organization under our town governance. I know it belongs to a network of libraries who share books (NOBLE, North of Boston Lending Exchange), but I think that's a different matter. Apparently she was able to grab so much money because she committed fraud with GE's matching of (fake in this case) employee charitable contributions. There is a large GE plant in Lynn, the next town over, and I'm sure that many GE employees live in Saugus. If I believed in hell, I would expect an especially warm place for those who steal from such a worthy cause as local libraries.

I wonder if she can possibly pay that money back. Are court judgments dischargeable by bankruptcy? They probably are not.

If your library was part of a larger system in that case there would be more professional standards applied to activities, but I suppose that wouldn’t preclude someone who is hell-bent on stealing.

Our finance officer was a stickler and no one got away with anything. We did have a well publicized personnel Oopsie when someone was shown to have falsified work records for years, but that wasn’t part of the finance officer’s purview.

Stumbled across a movie called Last Words last night on PlutoTV. Missed maybe the first 5 minutes, but managed to get the gist of it. Very strange but also very interesting. Theme was apocalyptic end of the earth due to climate control and resulting human actions, but with a very unique perspective. Anyway, won't say any more in case someone may want to watch it. I guess, overall, I'll say that I liked it.

Sounds interesting! I'll check it out.

We wound up watching two movies about missing kids. The most recent one was The Snowgirl (La Chica de Nieve). it's a Spanish movie, dubbed in English, but have you noticed that dubbing is really good these days? Is AI helping with that at all? You can barely tell it's dubbed. Anyway, this is a Netflix movie, a limited series, and it was really good.

1883, the prequel to Yellowstone a generation or two back of the Duttons. It follows a wagon trail full of emigrants, plus a few Dutton members, seeking their fortune in the PNW. Sam Elliot is a start and he's always a bit of entertainment. Good cowboy movie, nice scenery, and probably not as Hollywoodized as a lot of westerns.

I havent watched Yellowstone but have seen clips. I was wondering about the “prequels” people hqve talked about, so thanks. Now I know what they are talking about.

okaay--I sat-n-watched a short documentary about the incident in Carbondale, Il. in late-1970 in which various police agencies besieged an old house occupied by black activists. The title was: "778 Bullets". Even though there was MUCH gunfire, evidently, no one was killed. Seven occupants of the house were arrested, tried, and acquitted of attempted murder. It is an event I had never heard about. They gave the 'zact address of the bullet-riddled old house, so I looked on google maps at the location. A much newer home sits on the site, and the address has been changed. But yeah---the takeaway is--just see what happens when you start making the local authorities aware that you are organizing a group to combat perceived injustices. You'll end up thinking: This isn't America; this is the Middle East. Well, almost. You probably won't be acquitted by a jury of your peers, like they were in Carbondale. Hope that helps you some.

Watching the documentary about Lisa Frank on Max. It's pretty interesting, since those were the years when I was first in the workplace, and so many things ring true about the era. It's fun to see the people then and now, see how they have aged. If you are in your late 60's-70's, this is visually fun to watch.

I finally saw "Buy Now" on Netflix, recommended here, although I cannot find the thread. It was excellent, but in a deeply disturbing way. I've been a bit too spendy lately, so I think some of the messages in the documentary will help me rein that in.

Just saw this today with a friend! I agree with your assessment of "excellent, but in a deeply disturbing way". Definitely has me planning to start a stricter vigilance of packaging and needs vs wants.
