okay--i vaguely recall that day in '68 when the irish rovers appeared on mike douglas and sang the little ditty: unicorn. yup. anyway---ya GOT TA post a picture of the plate of food you had, when you go on these drive-n-eat adventures. also, the number of miles you racked up, and account for the gas you burned. hope that helps you some. eta: how traumatic was your absence to the kitty-cats?

    You're right about Cape Cod!

DH & I honeymooned in Provincetown, off-season, at a nifty place that's now gone: Capt. Jack's Wharf. Little studio rooms built out over the water with sides that opened up on pulleys. When the tide came in we were actually sitting out in the water. Like being on a boat-- but with no seasickness. It was funky, romantic and memorable.

The other special memory is of cycling through the national seashore there--very beautiful.

So yes, we did fall in love with old Cape Cod--and with one another! Precious times there.

That sounds like a beautiful weekend, rosa, and that house sounds amazing!

My college friends with whom I spend annual or biannual mini-reunions will be getting together, not in the Cape, but in Gloucester, so not far from there, and on the Atlantic. I'm looking forward to it! I have been to the Cape and to Nantucket, and also to Maine (where I pigged out daily on lobster rolls). Such a beautiful part of the country.

Catherine: When are you going and where will you be staying? I could possibly make some useful recommendations since Gloucester isn't far from us and we go there pretty often.

We are going 9/9-11, and the group is staying at the Vista Motel. The member of our group who organized it moved to Gloucester a couple of years ago. I'd love to hear your recommendations! I don't think we have anything set in stone yet, except for a schooner ride.

I think you will definitely want to check out the gardens at Stacy Boulevard, although it is probably on your local member's itinerary, because that's also where the famous statues are located. The gardens should be looking great in September. https://generousgardeners.org/photo-...photo-gallery/
Nearby Main St has a nice array of shops, so not frugal, but some cool small local businesses. Mark Adrian on Main St is probably my favorite shoe store. Bananas (also on Main St) is a neat vintage/second hand store with really good prices, and a little further out, Second Glance is a very nice thrift store with an excellent book section.
Beauport, AKA the Sleeper-McCann House, is an amazing property to visit if time permits: https://www.historicnewengland.org/p...-mccann-house/
I love Gloucester; I'm sure you'll have a great time!

I really enjoyed the Hammond Castle Museum - it has a very interesting history and a Swedenborgian connection. I find Swedenborgian ideas fascinating, and am just getting started learning more about it. Anyway, it's the only place I've actually visited in Gloucester.

I agree Early, Hammond Castle is another site well worth visiting. I've been there quite a few times, and I was especially enchanted with it as a child.

Thank you, rosa and early morning! I'll definitely submit those ideas to "the committee". I'm really looking forward to this trip, and love that I don't even have to get on a plane to get there!

okay---I'd liketa see the ZACT spot where demmacrat political icon Ted ran off the bridge in his moms ollsmobille, and one a the girlz from his crew drowned, due ta Teds lack of whatever-it-took ta save her. He was no Navy Seal, for sure. But yeah---you kids might enjoy visiting the site. Yup. Hopefully, there's someplace close by that serves yummy food. Yup. See this map----alla that was not very far from Cape Cod. Nope. (see photo)
