My older brother did two tours in Vietnam as a Green Beret. He is such a gentle soul that it is hard to imagine him as a warrior. I have thought about asking his daughters if they would nominate him for the honor guard flight since he now lives in another state.
My father on the other hand somehow escaped WWII by being in medical school at the time.
