    Bob Ross paintings

I see where an administrator of Bob Ross paintings has offered up 30 for auction to benefit Public Television. The first three sold for over $600K. It's good to see some people stepping up to help with some of the Trump budget and retribution slashes. I've not looked it up, but would like to think Thiel and Zuckerburg dribble some of their vast fortunes into some manner of giving in spite of cozying up to Trump and furnishing their mega yachts.

I took an early withdrawal from my IRA and made a donation to one of my favorites that's been affected, but maybe not anything signifiant in the big scheme of things. We've talked about some tax advantages to making charitable donations, which may not be all that big, but possibly a good time to offer some help. A good friend sent his to public radio.

okay----yah, i had read at one time that he gave away his paintings back in the day. But now, I read that they've largely been archived in a collection owned by the heirs to his estate. So, yeah---the present would be a good time to start selling them, one at a time, while his popularity and name recognition are still high. It will be interesting to see the sale prices---i don't foresee any bargains, though. If you want an inexpensive landscape to hang on the wall, it might be better to visit a thrift store.

They are saying the ones with the most value are ones featured on his program, so people can hang one on their walls and also have his video painting the same scene. Since he painted duplicates of his paintings, you probably can't know if they are the exact same ones. The high auction prices probably have something to do with the charitable donations, but Antiques Roadshow from Alaska a while back showed the appraisal of five of his paintings and they definitely were not cheap. But yes, if you just want some good original wall art there are a lot of talented artists out there for a lot less money, but no famous name or investment value, if that matters.

How does the auction work? Does the losing bidder have to take the painting home and display it?

It begs to ask if the loser is the high bid or the low one.

A good idea for the charity anyway.

High bidder gets this fine Bob Ross painting to take home! Runner-up bidder gets *two*. And so on. Paddles up!!!
