Chinese Food on New Year's Eve?

I'm wondering if any of you have a tradition of ordering Chinese food on NYE. It's a huge thing around here, but when I delve into it, it seems to be mostly a Massachusetts thing, which I had never realized. We avoid Chinese food on NYE because everyone else is ordering it (and it's not a favorite of ours anyway). That's reason enough for us to confine ourselves to one of the other 364 nights of the year, plus we admittedly do run a bit contrarian. DH used to work with a woman whose family owned a Chinese restaurant. She told him that food is made weeks in advance and frozen, and that it was the worst possible time to get Chinese food. One of the Chinese restaurants in town closed, so people are asking on FB, "Where can we get our Chinese food for NYE" like it's a life or death worry. I don't get it.

Never heard of that tradition. We don't eat Chinese food anyway.

It must be regional. We eat black eyed peas and collards on New Years, if we know what's good for us.

It's been a while, but we used to comply with the Scottish tradition of having steak pie on New Year's Day. And we also abided by the "first foot"--the first person to cross the threshold in the New Year must bring coal, or whiskey or bread. (symbolizing warmth, food, and prosperity)

We don’t eat Chinese food at New Year’s. Jews go out for Chinese food on Christmas day but you probably know that.

We eat snacky things on New Years Eve - things like cowboy caviar with black eyed peas. New Years Day is posole.

My husband grills steaks and makes home made french fries. The only time we deep fry. Tomorrow we'll have some pork, black eyed peas and corn bread. Missing cabbage, but will use salad for the green. I always thought first foot was a good tradition. We're usually in bed way before midnight. Around here shots guns go off and fireworks. We are in the Maryland Piedmont, rural.

We always got appetizers for dinner on New Year's Eve. The kids loved it - along with the sparkling ciders (which were always way too sweet for me - LOL) Dh and I decided to do the same again tonight, as it will just be the two of us. I'm kind of looking forward to it - opening a box, dumping on a tray and throwing in the oven. Easy-peasy!
