This week I gave away via FB:
Heated mattress pad from Mom's house
Unopened Colace supplement from Mom's house
Two water pitcher filters that a friend gave us, but are not compatible with our pitchers
Partially used calcium supplements from our house
One person needed a nudge, but overall the pickups went smoothly.
I'm sure it's faster and easier to just donate things, but I also know the thrift stores get more stuff than they can handle. I figure as long as I have the time and inclination, it is better to get things directly into the hands of people who actually want them; there is less risk of them ending up in the trash. Plus I would not be able to donate supplements, especially opened ones.
