Hmmm. Reverse decluttering! Quite the concept! It could turn the people on Hoarders into moo-vee stars.

I guess I'm kind of reverse decluttering since I've brought some things home from Mom's house. I am being selective and judicious about this process though, and we are giving away or donating a lot more than we are keeping.

I was making out this week's grocery list and went to look to see if we needed more cereal. My husband likes his cereal decanter for some reason. I took out the container to see how much was left. Some of the cereal fell out from a hole in the bottom of the container. It somehow cracked. I tried to fix it and it didn't work so it got trashed. I won't be replacing it because I hate decanting stuff.

I am slowly getting rid of all the containers as the items get used up and/or break.

I went through a really bad infestation of mice in my pantry/kitchen. Got it resolved but will put bagged or cardboard boxed items into glass canning jars for storage now. If I know something will get used up quickly, then maybe not, but mostly - yes.

In that case yes, I can see keeping contents in containers.

We only had an issue with mice once and that was a few years ago. Cats found them before they could do any damage. No clue how they got into the house but I woke up to a blood bath on our kitchen floor.

I do put oatmeal and beans in glass jars, sugar in a big glass jar and rice, too. Not mice so much, but ants.
