I thought the toilet paper scarcity at the start of the pandemic was hilarious... I've learned that that behavior was due to a scarcity mindset which including believing their was a supply shortage when there was not; taking cues from other people who started to stockpile TP ("These people must know something I don't."); and finding small ways to control an uncontrollable situation "I can't stop the pandemic, but I can control my household."

I fundamentally would not classify TP as a survival need.
