Catherine, question about your "guest cabin"

I don't know if I missed an update or something - so apologize in advance if I did. I was wondering how your little cabin built is going/went. Is it done? Pics? Has it been used? I remember loving the idea when you first posted about it and am hoping for an update.

Yes, it is a success! My son/DIL love it. It's tiny, but it fits their bed (I think they're going to replace the bed with a futon), and a dorm fridge, TV, End table, and chair. They've decorated it with their favorite art, photos and LL Bean check comforter. My DIL is a horticulturist, and she will be planting stuff in the window boxes and around the base of the house.

They aren't here, so I won't breach their privacy with pictures of the interior, but here is a picture of the outside in the winter.

Frankly, I wish I had permitted them to get a slightly larger one.I was afraid it would take up too much space in my yard, but they could have gone 40-50 sq.ft bigger.

That is sooo cute! Does it have electricity running to it? (Can't tell with the one line in back or not.)

Yeah... isn't there a term when you steal someone else's electricity? Well, they're "stealing" ours with a high-tech device--an extension cord! They also have cable TV and streaming in there.

It's charming! Are those screened windows?
My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far today, I have finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already!

Yes, they are screened windows! I'll post again when DIL does her thing with the plantings!

I saw what looked to be a black wire going down the back, but can't tell where it ends up. Wasn't sure if it was an electric line to the little house or not. It really is cute! I wonder if I would be zoned for one in my backyard?

Yeah, that's the main electrical line into the house. At first we were afraid it would be a problem siting the house, but it wasn't. I was also afraid of permitting iin my area. But we can put any shed or ADU on our property that is smaller (I can't remember hos much smaller) than the main house. Every town, as you know, has its own laws, though. This one is 8' x 16' incuding the porch. My DS/DDIL bought it from a Canadian firm and it was delivered as a kit, because there wasn't any way a truck could deliver a pre-built one. I think it was about $7000 all in. They paid for it; DH and I only contributed the gravel for the footing. It's not the cheapest shed you could buy, but it's the cutest, and the company was great to work with.
