Oh my catherine. Oh my. It *is* poignant, the items in BIL’s car. The stuff of his life that gave him meaning. So evocative of what he valued.

He died quietly in his own bed, so that was some grace for him. not everyone gets to do that.

and what a heavy load you have had with three illnesses in your family. I can’t imagine coping with that.

Thank you, iris. Yes, he died in his own bed. There certainly is some comfort in that.

That is such a sad list. I am so glad he was able to end his life with his family, with you guys who loved him so much.

Catherine: That definitely tugs at the heartstrings. I recall that you folks gave DBIL a lot of assistance over the years though, and you have been dealing with so much, so please don't beat yourself up. I agree that dying in his own bed was a major blessing. I am quite proud of the fact that we enabled Mom to die peacefully in her own bed.

I agree with what everyone else has been saying. Hugs to you, catherine and to your family. I hope the remaining health issues are quickly and positively resolved. Sending prayers.

Ah, my heart goes out to you, Catherine. One of the kindest men I worked with had a similar story. He took my autistic grandson under his wing, and it was so sad and tough to take (an understatement) when he took ill and died very suddenly. Seems so unfair somehow.
My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far today, I have finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already!
