Shooting at the WH correspondents dinner

“Wow, that was f..king awesome.” —Dana White

” This is a reporter’s dream – access to the front lines and a buffet”— (my beloved) Douglas Murray

An editor from the UK attended, hoping to get a full on American experience. Boy howdy, she sure did.

The AP photographer who bopped around the room in the seconds after the gunfire, shooting images with one hand while sipping his bourbon.

“…there was an assemblage of good men who embodied the best of the masculine traits: calm, humor, dependability, protection, chivalry, and knowing, offhand, an oddly specific level of detail regarding Secret Service procedures for an active shooter”. As they shooed women and servers under tables and made them stay there

these observations courtesy of Suzy Weiss of The Free Press.

I read the Suzy Weiss article here yesterday. Being one of those guys who routinely refer to cars and trucks as "vehicles" I must admit I felt rather nostalgic reading some of her observations. I was reminded of Bruce Springsteen's refrain (from before he went bat shit crazy) "Glory Days, they will pass you by, glory days, in the blink of a young girls eye, glory days, glory days". I wonder if Mr Springsteen is aware of the irony of the results of his recent commentary? Doubtful, I think.

Speaking of irony, I also wonder if those politicians who have voted, what 14 times now?, to not fund the DHS feel any remorse as they issue the obligatory 'thank goodness for the brave men and women in law enforcement' statements in their efforts to put a little distance between their rhetoric leading up to events such as this and and it's natural result. I feel doubtful of that as well.

Not to fund DHS was based on not continuing to divert astounding amounts to ICE. Obviously, other agencies still need to be operational.

the “vehicles “comment was funny. I can’t think of anyone who says that, but maybe I’m just not observant. But now I know one person who says it! Alan!

Not that I’m going to draw any conclusions from this, but it was interesting that Vice President Vance was hustled off that stage seconds faster than the President of the United States. Vance had one handler on him, the President had several. Is that why it took longer? The group had to consult with one another?

I think that was a matter of assignment. At an event attended by multiple 'principals', protective personnel are assigned to specific ones. I think in this case the VP's primary protective agent was closer or perhaps simply quicker than the President's.

Yeah, it would be nice to have a reasonable ballroom like the Washington Hilton's International Ballroom, which is 30,000 sq. ft. and holds over 4,000 people. But a ballroom three times the size? A ballroom the size of two football fields, completely out of proportion to the rest of the White House? I dunno about that.

I wonder what they did with all the left overs!? One news feature I heard was that the salad guy who kept eating said he was worried if he got down on the floor, he wouldn't be able to get up. Trump seemed to duck and cover pretty well for an old guy as he was rushed away.

okay----i am just sitting here, thinking that in these times, with all those deranged fanaticrats running around and Squinty-Eyed Jimmy egging them on, that having an event featuring Trump MUST have a locked entrance and other security. Otherwise, it's like driving through Dallas, Texess in a motorcade, with the POTUS---ANY POTUS---riding in an open-topped limousine, so that they are fair game for a crackpot marxist marksman or whatever. But yeah---it's just too bad the security detail took the suspec' alive, and not dead. It will cost millions to warehouse that wacko for decades, and that's not justice. Nope.
