#24, is quite the shocker, isn't it. Not much left to the imagination Re: that one!
YE GODS........although I remember ones from the fifties when I was young, that are nearly as bad....not much changed in the next twenty years or so after these, for sure.
as bae said, "Gracious"........that's about all I can say, myself.
I grew up in the 50s-60s but I just don't really recall those images or messages. I do recall the general belief that women were allowed to be nurses or teachers but ideally, housewives. Contrary to popular thinking today, I think many of the women I knew were quite content in that role. But maybe they just didn't think too much about other options. I have to wonder though if one aspect has changed at all and has become even more extreme. Today, women go to great lengths to "maintain" their looks and sexuality - resorting to all kinds of plastic surgery, fillers, etc. Is that to remain attractive to men or what? If we have come so far, what's that all about?
I heard an interview on NPR recently with a former female ad executive. She worked in the Mad Men era. She has written a book about that era, too bad I don't remember the title.
She said that she wasn't allowed to work on liquor ads (because that's how men seduce women) or cars (women know nothing about cars.) She was put on accounts for womens' products. Women in her office were paid half as much as men because they didn't have a family to support.
Antiseptic Germicide?!!OMG! No wonder I've been shunned by my friends!
I like the woman lying on the floor looking lovingly at the vacuum her adoring husband gave her for Christmas! Although she's probably on the floor from exhaustion from opening a ketchup bottle!![]()
Wow.
I liked that one, too, peggy. For the record though, DW said she would decidedly not be happier with a Hoover next Christmas. Guess times have changed.
I remember that Tampax one! I also remember rolling my eyes at it, even as a not-too-worldly pre-teen. "Are you sure I'll still be a virgin?"
