I remember when you were trying to decide whether to make the move, and look how it turned out! Would make a boffo rom-com. :)
A neighbor brought over a bag with the best cinnamon rolls ever hot from the oven. She said this was the recipe. I am going to try to make them myself. https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/perfectly-pillowy-cinnamon-rolls-recipe?go=EC201229_R1

That is neat to experience, lucky you!
My rave experience today was using my electric snow thrower to move the 4" of fluffy snow that fell early this morning. I have a snow blower that requires gas and is heavy and awkward by comparison. The snow thrower is like using an electric mower - light, easy and quick. I bought it last year and found that the heavy wet or icy snow won't go through the single stage thrower so had to use the two-stage blower to my frustration and disappointment, thinking I had made a poor decision despite the excellent sale price. Today I know that it was worth it.
Razz: Good news - having appropriate equipment for different types of snow; Bad news - needing said equipment :)

My amazing DH fixed/replaced the light on the kitchen ceiling fan from parts he had in the garage!!! He does this all the time. It amazes me every time. Recently he also took apart the microwave and tightened all screws (?) and it now works fine.

I am jumping for joy!
Our architect-neighbor just knocked on my door to tell me our contractor will start work on our Hermann house in about four weeks. Yay yay yay!it’s also sweet that I have in my head preferred materials for cabinets and countertops because I’ve been keeping this Hermann project in the back of my mind while I choose materials for my condo.
My plan is to tell DH which cabinet material to use, which countertop material to use, and backsplash tile. Oh and stove! And then walk away. DH can do the rest of the work with the contractors because I just don’t care. DH does a nice job planning kitchen cabinetry anyway he’s quite experienced at it.

Congrats! That's so exciting, IL!!
I'm pleased that it's all coming together for you, IrisLily.
Looking forward to seeing the changes as they progress if that is possible, IL.
My first rave for today is that my handheld Black and Decker vacuum arrived yesterday and it is exactly what I have wanted for a number of years, well, decades in reality. I kept talking myself out of buying one figuring I could just hand dust and make an extra effort with the larger vacuum. The little guy is so much easier to use with lithium battery power so no cords; it reaches into nooks and crannies better than me getting down on my hands and knees to hand dust.
My second rave is the bathroom shower head with the magnetic link. I bathed my little beagle this morning using it and he stood still just enjoying the warm water spraying over him instead of my scooping bath water to rinse off the shampoo.
Neither was terribly expensive but so worth every penny for my convenience and comfort.

That’s great IL! I fired my realtor that was supposed to be helping me find a condo for the past 3 weeks and doing nothing. Found a new one on a recommendation yesterday and he has 5 lined up that I picked from the ones he sent to see on Thursday. The one that’s my favorite is the most expensive but it’s on the 11th floor downtown with 2 balconies. It has a view of the mountains and the lights at night. My kids and friends say to stop settling and for once get what I want. I will if I love it once I see it. The pictures are beautiful!

My non-RealID DL expires in March. I was happy to get a letter telling me I was eligible to renew online a couple of weeks ago, and so I renewed online. Had my license in probably 10 days. Glad to get that out of the way. I wasn't looking forward to standing in line outside in the summer (DL expirations have been extended to June here).
I have a passport/passport card, so I don't need RealID.

Catherine, the nicer condo has 61 more feet because it’s a corner unit. So you get a bigger bedroom, bathroom and a linen closet.

That sounds nice! It brings a little normalcy back to your life.
I know there are those of us who really love year round sun and warmth and those of us who like where they live until it gets cold and then they are off to warmer climes.
Then there are those of us who love the change of seasons--even the snow and the cold and all the inconvenience that causes.
I am frankly surprised at how much I love winter up here. We had quite a bit of snow up here yesterday, made worse by the drifts caused by the lake winds. So we kept the "home fires burning." I went out just now to grab 3 more logs for the evening.
Maybe because I've been imprisoned this week doing interviews and powerpoint slides non-stop, I stepped outside and it was just so beautiful! In my pajamas and gardening gloves I walked around our wood shed and stepped out into such silence and solitude. The air was so crisp and light flurries of snow landed on my face. A beautiful moment.
Tomorrow I vow to take out my new snowshoes and get outside! Powerpoint be damned!

Catherine, that looks so beautiful and peaceful. Lovely!
Add in the sunshine sparkling on the fresh snow, winter is quite lovely. Glad that you are enjoying your winter there.
Though I live within city limits, I love getting out early on snowy mornings and hearing ... nothing, because the snow blankets the noise. Gotta have the seasons. And a three-foot frost line that kills spiders the size of softballs and snakes the lengths of cars.

Today I am happy because a relatively well known blogger, the Freckled Fox, has made it clear she’s getting a divorce. Her husband announced it today.
Instagram influencers are there in my mind to observe and snark on, but this girl has really had some hard stuff to deal with. She married very young, produced five children, and then her young husband died of cancer. Then she went off the rails and 84 days later married a loser. He shot her. He treated her children like crap.
It has taken her four years to wake up to his stupidity and kick him to the curb.
Happy I got the X Country skis out and got to enjoy the snow for an hour:cool:
Today despite the cold, with no wind and the bright sunshine. it was a delight to walk my little beagle. I chatted with people all along my route who were enjoying the sunshine as much as I was. The longer daytime hours are so wonderful as well.

A neighbor I have only seen walking her dogs, yet she has bumperstickers I agree with and I told her so last week. Today with mask on she recognized me and said Hello. I have been here 1.5 years and really have not met anyone so it was nice.
Sun, sun, glorious sun. The sun rises early enough now I can see it on my commute and it was out today instead of snow, sleet and rain. The temperature will get into the 40's today, and should hit 50 Sunday so I can visit my parents then sitting in our respective cars with the windows rolled down and chatting after probably a month of not seeing them because it was just too cold. It is a nice foretaste of spring.

25 minutes start to finish getting my second covid shot. I am so thankful we live a mile from the huge hospital complex and they are running a big clinic just for shots. Two initial check in lines, 6 check in desks, 6 stations with nurses to give shots, and an auditorium set up for social distancing with an enormous clock for the 15 minute timer. Employees assigned just to direct people to keep the line moving. Everyone was friendly. And best of all free attached parking.

My neighbor pointed out to us yesterday that one of our fruit trees is budding. ??? After a week of Vermont weather in the low teens?? And 17mph North wind coming off the lake? Is the snow glare fooling it into thinking it's warm sun?
Has that happened to anyone?

Even during our recent Arctic blast, the winter sun up here is so strong that it can start melting a thin layer of snow on an asphalt driveway. And cars parked outside can be surprisingly warm inside because of the low angle of the sun. It does belie expectations, but it works.

Interesting side story - our printer has not been working correctly and I didn't trust it to be printing out the necessary documents. Decided to go get a new one. Local Walmart had 1 (ONE!) printer on the shelf for $99.99. Went to Target - two printers on the shelf for $79.99 and two others for $149.!!! I never would have guessed there has been a run on printers lately! Explanation by sales person was the increase in virtual schooling and work-at-home. Ended up getting one of the $79.99 ones. So apparently there are only 4 printers left in my immediate area for purchase as of today!!!
It is hard to imagine the impact of the slowing of manufactured stuff coming via the Suez Canal. Hard to imagine the insurance bill at the end. A smaller freighter would not be as vulnerable, ship less but arrive on time.

My iris beds in Hermann are clean and weeded, this is good! First time in 3 years.
The past three years have been Iris mania time! waiting for DH to build beds, moving 300 iris, getting them labeled correctly, figuring out which ones died, then lifting them all AGAIN to amend soil with Turface and compost and making a new planting plan, then re-mapping and making a new database.
oh the work of dividing/labeling/mapping iris will never be done, but 75% of it is done now. I have one big bed to amend with Turface and compost, then that one will be ready to receive iris I can buy over the next 2-3 years. By then our Hermann construction will be completed and I can plant iris clumps around the foundation , so that will be even more room for iris.
Congratulations, Iris. What a job!!

I figured why buy printers when you can always go and print at a FedEx (was Kinkos) and printers are forever dying anyway. Yes this ended up meaning I went to FedEx to print something a couple times in a pandemic, didn't plan for that, so that was the downside. I'm not allowed to print for work from home, this was non-work stuff.

Sure! The local iris society meets ina town 30 miles away and I am a member of that group (although it is dying.) It is common and expected that iris gardens are open for irisarians.
In recent years, Hermann had more iris judges per capita than any other town in our state. Haha (three of us.)
I bought a Brother all-in-one years ago. At some point, I futzed around with it and managed to irrevocably change the on-line help function to French. :~)
I've never taken the time to figure out its finer points, but it still works, accepts generic ink cartridges, and generally doesn't cause problems. And I hope it never does, because my French is nearly non-existent at this point.
I have been enjoying the array of bluebells that are coming up in the cemetery where I walk the dog. Yesterday I noticed wild violets and spring beauty displays there so today, I took photos of all of them to draw and paint them. I found a patch of bluebells on the road allowance so dug up a few plants to try planting in my back yard. Fun to enjoy springtime this way.

It is fine for what I am doing with it--I am clearing brush and making hills with the brush and covering them with dirt and growing pumpkins so that the roots can act to till the soil a bit. They did a good amount of testing and told her that they could not help her have any more hearing than she has already. They actually said they could sell her a new fancier pair but her hearing would not improve. She was devastated but I appreciate their honesty right up front rather than heve her angry at the end when her hearing is not better and she has spent another $3,000.

It was a beautiful day today and our community had village wide garage sales. It was wonderful to be outside running around. We picked up a few nice things too!
Gorgeous day here as well. My laundry is on the line with the springflowers in full bloom.
A new neighbour offered me his deep maroon peony and the baseball-sized rocks from the bed surrounding it last night. He wants to plant a large palm tree instead that will be stored inside in winter. Another neighbour that helps me with odd jobs came over this morning to help move the rocks and the peony. He also helped me with setting up the two rain barrels, assembled the concrete birth bath, pumped up the tires in my wheelbarrow and the generator so I am set. It all took less than an hour for the two of us and he would only accept $20, albeit reluctantly at that. Love my neighbourhood!

We went to the greatest plant shop in North Adams this weekend, The Plant Connector. It was such a cool shop with delightful people and a wonderful selection of plants, but what I loved the most was that cat-friendly plants were labeled with little pink cat heads! Wow, and we were in Williamstown too, since that is the next town over. Small world! We spent Sat & Sun night at the HI in North Adams, our first getaway since our Sept 2019 Niagara trip. I feel like NA is always on the verge of moving on up, but then it's one of the first places to get knocked back down when there's a recession or something like covid hits. We are very fond of that little city.

Yes, and I think MA MOCA had a lot to do with that. I love MA MOCA, although we did not get a chance to visit this trip. Did you go to MCLA? I've always wondered why NA didn't attract more visitors with Mt Greylock and Natural Bridge State Park, as well as the Western Gateway Heritage State Park. There's also a wonderful historic cemetery. It has a lot going for it even without MA MOCA.

Williams is such a beautiful campus, and they have a nice art museum that we've visited. As an aside that is relevant to the puzzle thread, the cool plant shop also had a free jigsaw puzzle exchange pile on the counter.
First time I’ve ever owed taxes to the feds. Just discovered yesterday you could pay online rather than mailing a check. Did it online this morning. So easy! I was happy.

That is a good book. There is ALWAYS another side to the story.
Now I am curious. Tried thinking about the wolf's perspective on the three little pigs story and how I would write it. I had no success so need some suggestions please. Was he just trying to help them build a better house by blowing the old one down? ;)

Well the sad truth is that Mr. A. Wolf was framed.
All he wanted was a cup of sugar from the pigs. He was baking a cake for his dear granny and he ran out of sugar and so he went to his neighbors, the three little pigs, to borrow sugar. But he was not feeling well and had a cold. It wasn’t his fault when his cold made him sneeze and huff and blow the straw house down. He ate that homeowner pig because the pig was already dead, so why not?
Same thing for the pig who lived in the house of twigs. A. Wolf just wanted to borrow sugar but when he got to the door he started sneezing and huffing and the house of sticks fell down. It was not his fault. He couldn’t let the dead pig in that house just lie there and rot, that was good food! so it had to be eaten.
He tried to borrow sugar from the last pig who lived in a house of brick. His cold came on him and he sneezed and huffed and puffed, but the house stood solid and that pig, selfish as he was, would not share any sugar. The cops came and caught the wolf and then accused him of deliberately huffing and puffing to ruin the houses. basically he was framed.
That is not bad, IL. That is a lot of pig to clean up so as not to waste good food. :D

Haha yep!
I bought that book for my brother when I first saw it- He had us read him the 3 little pigs EVERY NIGHT for a long period of time. He remembered and laughed at the wolf's perspective in "The True Story".
I told my daughter-in-law she should open a Roth IRA and contribute to it for 2020, and she told me last night at dinner, all excited, that she had used her vacation pay out from her old job to open it. She was so proud and excited. So I'm helping her learn about index etf's, and I am really, really happy she listened and now is asking for advice.
What a nice Mother's Day present--and she cooked dinner for me, too! She is a wonderful family member, we are so lucky to have her.

Do you want to see something weird? And strangely beautiful? And interesting?
behold! The ‘Jungle Shadows’ iris.
3786
when I saw it in my friend’s garden last year all I could say is “what is that? What is that? What…Is THAT!”
It’s spooky and creepy and Gothic. It looks like it grew up among mushrooms. It’s just weird as hell. I love it so much and it gives me goosebumps and makes me a little verklempt.
I ran out and ordered three rhizomes, and two of them survived the winter So I hope this clump grows.
It reminds me of an iris I was obsessed with about 10 years ago, for the same reasons. I thought it was dark and mysterious and insanely interesting. I still have that Iris but I’m not in love with it as I once was. It’s called ‘Disguise. ‘
.
Beautiful iris! It is spooky--an Addams Family plant! I could see it working well in a Chihuly installation!

I grow black hollyhocks, so I get the attraction--they are so unexpected.
Oh black Hollyhocks! I had a few one year for my gothic garden!
The main thing I learned from that gothic garden experience was: there is an inherent conflict in what I want and vs. what I can grow. I wanted a shady, ferny area with black flowers, dark leaved plants, with bits of bright color for contrast. There are some wonderful near-black flowers out there.
What I learned was in order to develop that gorgeous rich dark color, these black flowers need full sun. That sunny environment is opposite of the shady, dark and quiet, spooky atmosphere I wanted.
Like the black-ish tulips! A Goth garden would be really fun, but you are right--you need that sun.
My rave is that my husband's nephew came to visit, and we met his girlfriend, and she is a delight. We decided to cook up some fiddlehead ferns as an experiment and they were really good.
It was a great day, with really nice young people to share it with, with young people enthusiasms and optimisms, and we even went out to a restaurant to eat, though we decided to eat outside on the picnic tables, because it was too loud inside.
It's fun to see them grow up, when you remember them as little kids.
And oh, I got to offload 10 photos of the nephew as a little boy, including pictures from his second birthday party.

My favorite plant ID app is Picture This. Let me know how Seek is!
These apps are so amazing to hear about. Thanks for sharing. The dog and I will have more to explore now on our daily walks.
I found the 'picture this' app but not the 'seek' as yet. Is more info available?
Oh, I will have to try Picture This for tree identification. We have no idea what some of these are, but I guess it would help if the leaves would open already.
Catherine, for the fiddleheads, we washed them by soaking in cold water several times, boiled them for about 5 minutes in salt water (not sure why you do this) and then sauteed them with butter, olive oil, and a minced clove of garlic. Then we just ate them, although I added shaved parmesan to mine.
We all decided they would be a good addition to fettucine alfredo.
They taste an awful lot like asparagus.

The neighbors across the street moved. The wife was a serious social climber/snob (first encounter: she told me she almost didn't buy the house because she didn't think my house was good enough to be in her neighborhood) and the husband spent all his free time with motorized things taking care of his lawn. Watering daily, mowing 3 times a week, daily blowing of the driveway, occasionally other motorized things were going. Usually when I wanted to relax. Often before 7am on a weekend morning.
The new neighbor hired a lawn service that comes once a week during the day for 1/2 hour. She has 1/2 time custody of her grandchildren and its delightful to hear their chatter instead of constant machine noise.

Herb, what a snob and good riddance to that jerk! At my house we had 3 kids next door and it was delightful to see them grow up. I never minded the noise either. They were really nice kids.
My neighbourhood is a mix of ethnics, seniors, singles, families, obsessive lawn, some opposite in viewpoint on lawns... I enjoy and visit with them all. I deliberately chose to avoid a senior complex. I wanted a garden and space for my dog as well as the mixed society.
The only aggravation is one dog owner of an uncontrollable poodle cross. He keeps wanting to have his dog learn to be friends with mine. I suggested he take the dog to a kennel to help with this training. The kennel evaluated and refused the dog.
Finally, last week when I was out on a walk, he crossed the road towards me with his attempting to have the dogs visit, I informed him," That won't happen as I do not wish to be scratched by any dog." I hope that is the end of it.
The new facility got my mother to take a shower--it took them a week, but they did it.
She had been wearing the same clothes, day and night, at the old place, for over 4 weeks. When my husband and I were moving her things out, we found trash and old food everywhere. One of her nightgowns hanging in the closet smelled so bad it made me sick.
(It has been my mission, since I arrived here, to get her out of that place, and I had to fight my brothers every step of the way, as they kept telling me "they are doing such a good job with her." I was ready to call Adult Protective Services. She was so stressed that she actually hit someone.
Today, at the new place, she was actually happy and relaxed.

The discussions here lately around the difficulty of dealing with parents with dementia made me want to read the book Still Alice. I saw the movie, but from what I understand, the book (which is usually better than the movie anyway) is written from the Alice's POV. Hard to accomplish that in a movie, but apparently the author has a degree in neuroscience and she interviewed tons of patients to get their perspective on the journey. She also distinguishes between "sympathy" and "empathy" and that her book is really focused on empathy--being "with" the person on their journey.

Tybee, from the little that we know, it seems that the move was necessary to sort things out for your mother. Such levels of support are almost impossible from a distance. It was a needed move.
In addition, it gave you an opportunity to consider alternatives to Michigan; again, some important experience to help sort out your priorities going forward. You really are in a strong position. Housing prices are going up whatever you decide. Give yourselves credit for being smart, capable and able to sort out the next step.

As it turns out my little library had a copy! rosa, I started it yesterday at 4pm, and I've been reading non-stop. You're right--she is a wonderful storyteller.
When I went to this library for the first time yesterday, I tried to remember when I last went to a library, and I think it was basically to donate books during The Purge. It felt SO GOOD to meander the stacks and chat with the librarian. I get the feeling that I might be lucky finding good reads in this little jewel box of a library based on my interaction with her. I also forgot the value of a good librarian. Here are a couple of pictures: one of the library and the other a still life of how I spent my afternoon yesterday, a day in a slow week work-wise. Heaven!

Librarians in a small library have made my life wonderful as DH and I were transferred with his work. Each shared tidbits of needed info about the community and where I/we might fit in, the books on hand to satisfy my particular curiosity at the time and became treasured friends. One, in particular, was very gently, wisely, non-judgemental but firm, a pillar in that community for decades. The automated checking out process is not a good alternative for newcomers.

Your library is adorable! Is is part of a library lending network? Most of the books I get through my library are actually from other libraries in the area, which expands my options considerably. We are still limited to curbside pickup in my town, and I am somewhat disappointed in them at this point. It seems like everyone else has found a way to do business despite Covid except for my library and town hall. I realize I'm kind of veering into rant territory on the rave thread - sorry!

Our library system has been open through mich of the pandemic (closed completely in the early days of it) but mask requirements and limits of time you could spend there, plus NO SEATED ACTIVITIES were in force for a long time. I went in tommake free photocopies now and then and to pick up a few books.
am wothin walking diatance, 1 mile, of a branch library and the giant Central library in the city and also within 1 mile of my
hermann branch library.
I’m guessing that each local library system is looking at their municipal guidelines as well as their state guidelines because they have to follow those. They are not making their decisions independently.
Jeppy: are you able to go inside of your library yet?
Yes, we have been able to browse inside with a mask for maybe a month now. I asked and they expect to go mask free when the mandate ends. I noticed some of the older staff quit around the time they opened to the public and there are younger staff now in place. I don't know if concern about the virus played into their decision to leave. At least one woman was semi-retired and only working a little bit.
The children's section is still curbside only because kids either cannot be vaccinated or only recently became eligible for the shot, depending on their age.

Yes, the library is part of a large lending network. I was surprised that Still Alice was part of their own collection, because honestly, I probably had more books at one point than they do! The South Hero library, 10 miles away, has been recently rebuilt and expanded with money from a benefactor and I can also access books there, too.
As far as homeless, no homeless problem at the G.I. library. They'd have to kick the librarian off her chair to sit down. There's no chairs, no computer stations. COVID kept the place closed up until a few weeks ago, but there was curbside pick-up.

Yesterday, an zoom program for supporters of a theatre offered a course on the basic steps to dancing which is generally performed on stage in musicals. She explained it so well suggesting that we could have fun dancing with favourite songs at home with nobody watching what we did.
After walking the dog in cold, very windy and rainy weather this afternoon, I found a station with 60's music on my Sonos speaker to listen to while I prepped and then blanched my winter supply of asparagus. I danced the steps I learned yesterday as I moved around. It was fun, warmed me up beautifully and it will definitely be something that I will do more often. It is amazing what different muscles one uses when dancing compared to walking. I usually have classical music playing so really enjoyed the pop music for a change. Fun day!

You will love the book, Rosa--it is based on an incident in his early years, where the sociologist Warner came to town and wrote Yankee City--in the novel, the sociologist writes Yankee Persepolis. All of that really happened, and the Yankee City books were a sociological study of Newburyport. The novel looks back on his experience of growing up in Newburyport, from the vantage point of someone who had gone away to war in WWII. It's also a great love story.

I.Am.STOKED about this for many reasons! Fewer piles of plates going to the landfill. Beauty and artistry brought to our tables after sad decades of stark white China ware. Not a color in sight there was. Pattern, color, texture can now joint our homes again. Maybe some restaurants will even pick up this trend.

Looking at how the yard and flowers beds look now compared to 2019 when we hired him ( after I broke my hip) his 2 hour stints have enabled me to keep the flower beds under control. I sit on my porch and just marvel at how nice it all looks and smells. Grateful for him, my husband and my restored health.

Glad that all worked out so well for you. I can relate to the enjoyment of a neat garden.

Congrats, nswef, on all of it - nice gardens, restored health, helpful teen and dh. Wishing you many hours of continued enjoyment of the garden space.
Thank you, Razz and Happy Stuff. I am a fortunate woman.

Your garden sounds great!
I saw a red fox walking around my neighborhood today. Maybe it will keep down the population of critters eating gardens.
Living in the boonies like I do, I see all kinds of wildlife. Foxes, deer, possum, raccoons, etc. We have woods on two sides of our house so we get mostly deer in our yard. A couple of weekends ago, we had a buck and four does jump our fence and then take a rest in our backyard. I snapped a few pictures.
Lovely photos; thanks for sharing.
During my daily walks with my dog, I meet regulars who become friends. One such friend shared info about a dog comb called a 'furminator". She was so enthusiastic I looked on Amazon https://www.amazon.ca/FURminator-deShedding-Undercoat-Brush-Medium/dp/B08BMRRSRW/ref=sr_1_17?crid=6KOC7NM7WHKG&dchild=1&keywords=furminator+cat&qid=1626280823&sprefix=furinator%2Caps%2C181&sr=8-17 and bought one. It is an amazing tool to reduce dog hair shedding. I was quite surprised at the amount of hair removed in two sessions. I spoke to another regular on my walk and he bought one 10 years ago when the price was much higher but raves about using it 4-5 times per week with their longhaired lab.

oh honey, I worked with the Marketing director for the Furminator and talked myself into a free one. They are very nice.
It is a St. louis product.
Interesting,IL. We are trying to figure how and why this works so well but glad that it does. Is there more to this story that you may share?

We had an Alaskan Malamute and I swore by the Furminator. It was the greatest.

You can also try the Chom Chom Roller to pick up fur off furniture. It works well. They sell it on Amazon and Chewy. Having that and the Furminator should help a lot with fur all over the house/furniture.

I don’t know the story of how the FURminator came to be, I just know that the company got sold/left St. louis and the marketing Director went elsewhere to work, that’s how I know her.
I figured she had some unopened FURminators in her basement, so I asked her if she did and she brought me one. I usually am not forward like that, but I just thought hey let’s save myself 30 bucks if she has a large supply of them.

When my son gave me Noki he also sent a big metal tool that did a great job of taking off his fur. He also loved the feel of it and would sit patiently. Noki was husky/shepherd so was a giant shedding machine.
Finally ventured away from the local setting to see an outdoor play at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It was warm , different venue but wonderful, the gardens throughout the downtown are beautiful as expected and I bought my first batch of fresh peaches and apricots at a farm stand. Perfect day!

I seldom wish I was very wealthy and a size 4, but I watched this Giorgio Armani collection from beginning to end, open mouthed. It is full of elegant gorgeous clothing for women of all ages. If you are 25 you can wear it. If you’re 85 you can wear it.They are feminine and eminently wearable. For these clothes I might become a Lady Who Lunches.
And I think they would all look good in a decade too although probably the pant length would be a problem.

It is best to watch the clothes as they move along the runway because they flow beautifully. But here is a slideshow if you don’t want to invest time watching a video.

Well, it was fun to look at the outfits. The fitted shoulder and loose pants are into fashion, it seems. I loved 4/69, thought 33/69 looked like a pot scrubber but 55/69 was a gorgeous gown.
Thanks for posting this, IL.

I'll watch the video when I have time, but I did scroll through the slideshow, and I think the looks were beautiful. On a personal level, I related most to the concepts with the jackets--for some reason I always gravitate to wearing blazers or cropped jackets or anything like that, so I think that that ones with a jacket particularly resonated.
IRL, I have tried to go "high fashion" a couple of times with horrible results. One time, at the Manchester VT outlets I bought an expensive Ellen Tracy skirt and embroidered jacket that I loved, and never wore it once. I wound up donating it to Goodwill. I have very, very simple preferences for myself in clothing, but that doesn't keep me from thinking more elaborate outfits aren't completely gorgeous on someone else. Simply put, I don't like drawing attention to myself, so I stick to solids and neutrals. I truly should have been a nun.
I liked it a lot as a collection, but wouldn't likely wear anything so formal. Number 38 stands out as a favorite.
In contrast to Catherine, I liked the loose, cropped pants best.

If I were going to a formal event, I could see myself in #16, #26, #27. I like #38, but it would swamp me.

Jane, Heidi and Tim’s second season of Making the Cut dropped within the past couple of days.
I am currently addicted to a new guy who’s a younger version of Tim Gunn. His name is Daniel Hopwood and he’s an interior designer on the show the Great British Interior Design Show. He is swoon worthy, and is, I suppose, a gay man.
That show is wonderful because every one of the properties they fix up is architecturally interesting, and most of them are old or very very old. And yes they do the usual three day cheap ass fixes, but these designers put out some pretty interesting work I have to say. They do a lot of a lot with paint color and a little carpentry, with pine and MDF, and toss pillows.
I always prefer dressing up rooms to dressing up women, so I much prefer interior design shows but so many of them are so horrifically ugly they hurt my eyes.
Most of the episodes in the show respect the integrity of the hundred year old properties they work on, but I watched one show yesterday where they painted a 200 year old pine floor with gorgeous patina. Oy. I blame the homeowner who should’ve said STAAAAHP!!!! no do not do that.
Someone in Indy must have watched Trading Spaces years ago. When they posted pictures to sell their home, they had little balls glued in a grid all over the bathroom walls. How would you ever clean it?

That sounds like such a Hildy thing to do. I remember the straw glued to someone's dining room walls. YUCK.

Had new carpet installed 5 years ago and it is rolling in the middle. Had the president/owner of the company come out and inspect. He said he would get back to me. I have called and he ignores my calls. SO, not knowing what to do, called Menards and asked if they had people they know who restretch carpets. The flooring manager sent me a list of 3 people within a half hour. I called and the installer called me back and came out the same day with an estimate. One week later (today) it is DONE!!! The installer said it was not even tacked down and that is why it was rolling. The carpet now looks nice and lays flat. I am thrilled to have it OFF my list!!!
YaY, for skilled trades! They truly are a pleasure to deal with.
Yesterday before anyone else came in, my boss gave me my yearly evaluation. I had been told by others who had him as a boss to expect a less than stellar evaluation. Plus the fact that I figured I wasn't hiding my absolute disdain for him very well. Went into his office and he handed it to me. All Outstandings!! I was shocked. He had nothing but good things to say about me and how I helped me so much when he first came. How I work well with co-workers (2 of which I think are completely worthless and point it out to him all the time). Unfortunately I have been maxed out pay wise for years so no pay increase but at least I know that I hide my dislike for him well.
Congratulations Klunick. Maybe with the current wage inflation in the country they will find they need to lift the cap before too long. Are you a member of a union?

No, not in a union. I am a non-sworn employee at a Police Department. Only the sworn people have that sort of thing. Normally the only pay increase I would get was a cost of living increase but the City hasn't done that in a few years either. I heard a rumor that we might see a 1% increase. I also obtained a Professional Certificate by attending a 14 hour class and taking a 50 question test . My title went from Property Clerk to Property Specialist but even that didn't warrant anything except getting a free day off.

To those folks out there ranting and raving over things they believe others are personally inconveniencing them about - irregardless of any consideration for those other people! Thanks for the giggle.
Happy my two babies (cats) were so well behaved at the vet. Went full feral on us trying to chase them and get them into the carriers and cried pretty much the entire way over but were quiet and well behaved once we got there and the entire way home.
I love it that DH's Bronco Sport is big enough for us to take yard waste to the dump! We got the $25 sticker that allows us access for the season. My town has very limited curbside pickup dates for yard waste, one in the spring and 3 in the fall, and you aren't supposed to include brush or branches. It is wonderful to be able to get rid of all this stuff soon after generating it, and not having to hold onto it for months. It's actually a town composting area, so that is a good thing too. Our yard is really too small to dedicate too much space to composting. So I get very excited about going to the dump on Saturday mornings!
Rosa yard waste pickup is the highlight of some of my weeks, but usually they don't do their job and I have to call and complain. They are blaming post-covid labor shortages but the problems predated covid.

I share your appreciation for waste pickup. I always feel so grateful when the garbage and recycling are picked up early once a week. They are a really good and conscientious crew. I often have garbage out just once a month and recycling even less than that. This year the garden waste was picked up every two weeks in spring season, once a month in summer and the fall cleanup will be every other week for 5 pickups. Waste disposal including sewage and clean water are my most treasured services of living in town compared to my farm life. Well, OK, the high speed internet going from dial-up in the rural area to 350kbps in town is another. These are all worthy of a 'rave'.
I dug up some glad bulbs when I left Michigan and threw them in a box in the barn. I planted them in my tiny garden here and they are doing beautifully, way better than they did there, for some reason!
My poor baby Boone must be annoyed with his sister and needs some alone time underneath my comforter. Man, I love this cat. Sweetest thing in the world but has Satan herself for a little sister.

I similarly feel bad for our Oggie sometimes because Raymond is so energetic and playful and doesn't respect Oggie's need for some peaceful quiet time.

The only time I've seen him do it is when he accidentally got trapped in my room when I was vacuuming. He got scared and crawled under the comforter to hide. I just happened to see the lump so I turned off the vacuum and let him escape to the downstairs where he feels safer. Boone is 16lbs but a baby at heart. He suckles to soothe himself. Normally on my shirt in the armpit area. Then he buries his head and falls asleep. Even when I am sleeping. He wakes me up by trying to move my arm with his paw so he can get to my armpit. Gracie on the other hand is Miss Independent. Can't hold her but she will allow herself to sit on my lap from time to time. Boone loves to be held. He even reaches up like this when I bend down to pick him up. **This is not a video of him. Just a cat who does the same thing** Cat Loves Hugs | Can I Get a Pick Me Up? - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ndl_6UfD3K4)

My rave for today is IT'S FRIDAY!!! (Even though it's Friday the 13th :0! )
I am proud of myself. Slow day at work so I did what I love to do. Look online for seasonal home decor. On two separate sites, I had a few things in my cart but I deleted them and didn't buy them. I knew that I really didn't need them even though I really wanted them. Probably saved $100 by checking myself.
